A DAY IN THE LIFE

Enthalpy Analytical, is part of the larger organization Montrose Environmental Group and is comprised of over 9 laboratories servicing air, water, and soil testing. Regulations drive the need for our services, but our unique capabilities allow us to add value to clients beyond environmental compliance.

Our Durham, NC facility is currently seeking a Full-Time Group Leader (M325B).

As a key member of the laboratory team, Group Leaders equip and maintain a well-trained and informed staff to meet the expectations of our clients by efficiently and profitably generating defensible date on time. The M325B group focuses primarily on running samples for the EPA’s M325B testing program which requires a high level of operational efficiency to meet the demands of the biweekly sampling cycle of the program. This presents unique challenges relative to other groups with less routine and predictable sample volume. Additional duties are:

  • Personnel supervision, time management, and operational efficiency
  • Hiring, firing, and disciplinary actions
  • Conflict resolution, personnel skills development and team building
  • Accurate and timely communication with internal and external clients
  • Project scheduling
  • Analyze samples as needed by using various published methods
  • Development of analytical methods
  • Final Report Review
  • Preparation of data summaries for inclusion in client reports.
  • Sample and Standard Preparation as needed
  • Occasional split shift and/or weekend duties
  • Instrument calibration and maintenance
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving
  • Write and assist the QAD and TD with updating related SOPs
  • Maintain adequate consumables and parts for analyses
  • Maintaining organized records of sample preparation and analysis, and equipment maintenance
  • Communicate with client’s questions or concerns
  • Initiate and address non-conformance issues
  • Overhead projects designed to improve efficiency of, or accuracy of analyses
  • Comply with Enthalpy’s Quality Assurance Program and other policies
  • Other duties as assigned by upper lab management
  • Ensure staff comply with Enthalpy’s Health and Safety Plan

Necessary Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Associates degree or higher in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience preferred
  • Group Leaders must be well versed in most of the methods run within their department
  • They must understand the underlying physical or chemical principles that underpin the assays being performed
  • They must be able to organize, communicate, and facilitate priorities to staff in an effective manner
  • They must be able to handle non-routine samples and be capable of managing an effective workflow in their department (this includes managing man-hours, machine time and logistics for numerous assays)

Preferred Skills

  • Ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel/management
  • Able to work independently, managing multiple responsibilities (i.e., self-starter, self-motivated)
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to think and act strategically and proactively
  • Resourcefulness, flexibility, and resiliency to operate in a dynamic work environment
  • 2+ years of experience in people management
  • Experience with ChemStation and MassHunter software
  • Experience with TD-GC-MS systems
  • Experience with LIMS
  • Experience with VOC testing
