About this role

Overview

For our Worldwide Information & Technology Transformation function we are looking for a passionate Head of Data Platform to join the Data Platform & AI Team at our HQ in Milan.


Your Impact

The Head of Data Platform will build and scale a trusted, cost-efficient data and AI platform that enables reliable analytics, BI, and ML across the organization, driving measurable business value.


In particular, the resource will be responsible for:

  • Define and evolve the target data architecture: on‑premise DWH (e.g., Oracle/Hana) + GCP (BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow), batch/streaming, canonical models, data contracts.
  • Lead Data Engineering: ingestion, transformation, orchestration (Airflow/Cloud Composer), feature engineering, performance tuning, cost & capacity control (incl. Fabric front/back separation).
  • Establish platform SRE practices: reliability, observability (logs/metrics/traces), scalability, disaster recovery, and security by design (access, encryption, secrets).
  • Industrialize AI/ML Ops: CI/CD for models and pipelines, environments, feature stores, monitoring (drift, performance), retraining and rollback.
  • Govern data quality and lineage: standards, SLAs, tests (unit & data), documentation, metadata/lineage catalog, and KPI definitions for downstream BI (Power BI/MicroStrategy).
  • Manage vendor and partner delivery; build a high‑performing team (hiring, mentoring, career paths) and drive ways of working (Agile, backlog, roadmaps).
  • Own platform budgets and consumption; define guardrails and FinOps on cloud workloads; ensure on‑prem costs and capacity are forecasted and optimized.

Qualifications

Who We Are Looking For
Main qualifications:

  • 10+ years in Data Engineering/Platform roles, with proven leadership of large‑scale data platforms (hybrid on‑prem + cloud).
  • Hands‑on expertise with on‑prem DWH (Oracle/Hana) and GCP services (BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow; Composer/Airflow).
  • Strong SQL and Python; ETL/ELT design, dimensional/data‑vault modelling, performance optimization.
  • AI/ML Ops: CI/CD (Git), model packaging, pipelines, monitoring, governance and risk controls.
  • Security & Compliance: IAM/RBAC, data privacy (GDPR), auditability, secrets & key management.
  • BI ecosystem awareness: Power BI, MicroStrategy; standards for KPI consistency and data contracts.

We Would Appreciate a Person That Is:

  • An excellent communicator, with strong stakeholder management across IT, Digital, Marketing, and Retail, and solid vendor management experience.
