Legal Counsel

We are currently based at KL Eco City, Malaysia.

We are seeking a dynamic and proactive Corporate Legal Counsel to join our growing Legal team. Reporting to the Legal HOD, you will provide day-to-day legal support across the organization, with a focus on corporate services contracts, employment law matters, corporate governance, compliance and general corporate legal topics. This is a hands-on, broad-ranging role suited for an energetic self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working cross-functionally.

Experience in the oil & gas industry would be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of corporate services contracts essential to day-to-day operations (e.g. indirect procurement agreements, software license agreements, confidentiality agreements, etc.).
  • Provide legal support to HR by advising on employment law (hiring, performance, discipline, policies, terminations), reviewing and drafting employment documents (contracts, amendments, guidelines), and ensuring compliance with labor regulations.
  • Provide legal support on anti‑bribery/anti‑corruption (ABAC), conflict of interest (COI), and human rights compliance across the business unit and assist in developing internal training and policies.
  • Support corporate governance processes and ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Provide day‑to‑day support on corporate secretarial tasks.
  • Coordinate with external counsel when required.

Qualifications

  • Law degree (LLB or equivalent).
  • 3–5 years of post-qualification experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department.
  • Solid background in commercial contracts, employment law, corporate law, and compliance.
  • Experience in the oil & gas sector is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and drive matters to completion.
  • High degree of initiative, pragmatism, and business judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute to a strong legal culture.

About MODEC

Part of the MODEC Group, MODEC in Singapore provides engineering design and consultancy services to support oil and gas extraction and offshore exploration activities.
