About this role

A Day in Your Life at MKS:

As an Incoming Inspection Team Leader at MKS Malaysia, you will partner with Quality Engineering, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality and Procurement personnel to verify the quality of purchased components, sub‑assemblies, and materials. This role ensures effective execution of inspection plans by the inspection team, adherence to standards (GD&T, IPC, sampling), accurate documentation in ERP/MES/QMS, and timely processing of materials. In this role, you will report to the Quality Engineering Manager.

You Will Make an Impact By:

  • Own the incoming inspection process: standard work, C=0 inspection plans, sampling plans (ANSI/ASQ Z1.4, Z1.9), acceptance criteria, and documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable QMS standards (ISO 9001; sector-specific or AS9100 aerospace, per site policy).

  • Lead, coach, and schedule an incoming inspection team, balancing workload to meet daily/weekly dock-to-stock targets.

  • Assign and prioritize work, monitor inspection throughput, and ensure timely processing of incoming materials (accept/hold/reject).

  • Develop team capabilities via training on GD&T, IPC-A-610 (PCBs/PCBAs), IPC/WHMA-A-620 (cable harnesses), metrology tools, ERP/MES/QMS transactions, and ESD/FOD controls.

  • Oversee equipment calibration, daily verification checks, and gauge care; coordinate MSA (Gauge R&R) with Metrology/Quality Engineering.

  • Enforce ESD, FOD, cleanliness, labeling/segregation, and traceability controls; maintain audit-ready records.

  • Lead NCR (Nonconformance Report) processing at incoming: containment, MRB coordination, disposition, and timely closure; support RMA to suppliers.

  • Review and approve complex inspection results for high-risk parts/features (e.g., positional tolerance, runout, concentricity; critical electrical/functional checks).

  • Validate and improve inspection methods (CMM programs, optical measurement, torque verification, continuity/insulation resistance checks).

  • Confirm supplier documentation requirements (CoCs, material certs, special process certs: plating, passivation, heat treat; FAI/AS9102 where applicable; RoHS/REACH declarations).

  • Collaborate with Engineering to clarify drawings/specifications, acceptance criteria, and configuration control; drive changes to reduce ambiguity and inspection burden.

  • Monitor supplier performance (incoming defects, repeat issues, documentation errors) and contribute to supplier scorecards and reviews.

  • Analyze trends (Pareto, defect taxonomy), prevent escapes, and implement improvements: mistake-proofing, visual aids, better sampling, and revised inspection plans.

  • Lead kaizen/lean efforts in the receiving/inspection area (layout, 6S, visual management, FIFO, dock-to-stock flow). Prepare for and support internal/external audits; provide objective evidence, process walk-throughs, and corrective actions as needed.

  • This position does not require travel with the exception of off-site training as needed.

Skills You Bring:

  • Bachelor Degree or Diploma in Engineering, E&E, electromechanical or equivalent.

  • 5–8 years in quality inspection or supplier quality within electromechanical product manufacturing, including 2–4 years in a lead or supervisory capacity.

  • Strong proficiency in GD&T interpretation and precision metrology (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin/thread gauges, torque tools; CMM/vision systems exposure).

  • Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards and ESD controls.

  • Experience with ERP/MES/QMS systems for receiving inspection, NCR/MRB processing, and traceability.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, set priorities, and drive results in a fast-paced, build-to-plan environment.

  • Excellent communication, documentation accuracy, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Sector-specific QMS experience (ISO 13485 for medical devices, AS9100 for aerospace, or TS16949 for automotive).

  • Familiarity with FAI, sampling plans (ANSI/ASQ Z1.4/Z1.9), and MSA (Gauge R&R).

  • CMM programming, optical/computed metrology, or automated inspection.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 30–40 lbs. occasionally, maneuver totes and parts.

  • Prolonged standing/sitting at inspection stations; fine motor skills for small components; use of magnifiers/microscopes.

  • Work in ESD-controlled environment; use PPE as required.

  • Flexibility for shift coverage and occasional overtime to support production schedules.

  • Ability to accurately differentiate color-coded components, markings, and visual indicators in accordance with inspection standards.
