Role Overview

Mitsubishi Power is hiring a Transportation Specialist III in the Savannah, GA location.  The Transportation Specialist III provides comprehensive logistics and trade compliance support for global gas & steam turbine projects within a Just-in-Time manufacturing environment. This position requires deep expertise in U.S. import and export regulations, customs compliance, and international logistics operations, as well as a strong ability to manage complex supply chains under tight production schedules. The role acts as a subject matter expert and advisor to internal teams on regulatory compliance, customs processes, and logistics optimization across North and South America.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
  • Coordinate import, export, and domestic shipments (JIT manufacturing), ensuring on-time material flow.
  • Optimize transportation modes (air, ocean, rail, heavy haul) for cost and lead time reduction.
  • Develop and manage logistics networks (freight forwarders, customs brokers, carriers, 3PLs) for planned and urgent shipments.
  • Audit and reconcile freight invoices; resolve discrepancies and provide cost reporting.
  • Manage daily FTZ activities: admissions, transfers, exports, and inventory control.
  • Reconcile inventory records across FTZ system, ERP, and CBP filings; resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare and submit FTZ reports, annual reconciliations, and ACE filings.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. import/export regulations (CBP, BIS, OFAC, EAR, ITAR).
  • Perform HTS classification, determine origin, and validate duty rates.
  • Review and verify documentation (invoices, packing lists, BOLs, certificates of origin) for accuracy.
  • Prepare and validate ACE filings, ISF submissions, and export documentation; maintain audit-ready records.
  • Partner with procurement, production, project management, and accounting to align logistics with business needs.
  • Drive process improvements and cost-reduction strategies supporting JIT efficiency.
  • Train and advise internal teams on trade compliance and documentation best practices.
  • Provide after-hours/weekend support for time-sensitive projects.
  • Support transportation manager in achieving KPIs and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Requirements

  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or International Business preferred.
  • 7 years of progressively responsible experience in import/export operations within a Just-in-Time manufacturing or industrial project environment.
  • Expertise in U.S. import/export laws, HTSUS classification, Incoterms, Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ), Temporary Import Bonds, and 9801 HTS programs.
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex, time-critical logistics operations and optimizing costs and lead time; Experience working with SAP, SharePoint, and ACE systems required; Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) or equivalent trade compliance certification preferred.
  • Language Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and regulations
  • Analytical & Technical Skills: Strong quantitative and analytical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools; Ability to calculate landed costs, tariffs, and freight rates accurately; Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities under tight deadlines
  • Leadership & Interpersonal Skills: Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence without direct authority; Strong vendor management and negotiation skills, Effective communicator across diverse cultural and organizational levels.
