Role Overview

The Equipment Senior Engineer, Pressure Vessels and Heat Exchangers position is responsible for developing mechanical system design packages for gas turbine auxiliary mechanical equipment, working with outside vendors to fabricate the specified equipment and ensuring that the supplied equipment packages meet code, contract and schedule requirements for Mitsubishi Power’s power projects in North and South America. The focus for this position will be Pressure Vessels and Heat Exchangers.

 

The mechanical systems engineering group is responsible for the following major systems:

  • Rotating equipment (API compressors, pumps, fans, air coolers, etc.)
  • Filtration equipment (filters, separators, scrubbers)
  • Heat Exchangers (fin fan, shell and tube)

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
  • Lead interpretation of P&IDs, contracts, codes, and technical documentation to define system interfaces and engineering requirements.
  • Perform and review complex engineering calculations to ensure proper equipment sizing, system integrity, and performance.
  • Develop, approve, and maintain equipment specifications, standard drawings, and design documentation.
  • Lead technical qualification, evaluation, and selection of vendors; prepare inquiry and purchase specifications.
  • Review and approve vendor designs, layouts, foundation interfaces, and test results for compliance with codes, contracts, and internal standards.
  • Serve as primary technical interface with vendors, customers, and internal stakeholders to ensure technical and schedule requirements are met.
  • Integrate parent company and end-customer requirements into system designs and vendor deliverables.
  • Drive design optimization and cost-reduction initiatives while maintaining safety, quality, and compliance.
  • Establish and improve engineering processes and procedures to optimize resources and deliver high-quality design packages.
  • Plan and manage engineering deliverables to schedule, providing regular status updates and technical guidance to management.
  • Resolve complex technical issues, respond to inquiries, and prepare formal technical correspondence.
  • Identify nonconformances and lead corrective actions to improve quality, reliability, and execution performance.
  • Lead and mentor engineers by providing technical direction, knowledge transfer, and cross-cultural collaboration.
  • Drive product innovation while proactively improving engineering tools, processes, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering required.
  • Minimum twelve (12) years of technical experience required. Preference is experience with design, specification and application of pressure vessels and heat exchangers (ASME Section VIII Div 1, TEMA, API 661). Power Plant, Japan-related or other International business experience is a plus but not required.
  • The preferred type of engineer for this position will come from an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) company, or an oil and gas company.
  • Experience with the design, specification and application of pressure vessels and heat exchangers. Experience with static filtration equipment is a plus.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, Acrobat Writer, Excel, etc.). Knowledge of database, project management, graphics, technical diagrams, flow charts, etc.
  • Periodic travel to customer offices and construction sites is required.
