Role Overview

The Equipment Engineer - Principal position is responsible for being the subject matter expert for gas turbine auxiliary mechanical equipment. The duties include working with the Equipment Engineering Team to advise on any technical items which may be asked, training younger engineers on the various equipment, and overseeing the design, development, and improvement of all or new equipment. Additionally, the role may require attending project meetings to give updates on the status of drawings, technical specifications, or any other open items.

 

The equipment engineering group is responsible for the following major systems:

  • Heat Exchangers – Shell & Tube and Fin Fan type for Turbine Air Cooling, Enhanced Air Cooling, Fuel Gas Heating, and Closed Cooling Water Cooling.
  • Static Equipment – Vessels, Separators, and Filters for Enhanced Cooing Air System, Fuel Gas Conditioning, Seal Air, and Closed Cooling Water System.
  • Rotating Equipment – Compressors, Pumps, and Fans for Enhanced Cooling Air System, Ventilation, Tempering Air, Cooling Water, and Fuel Gas System.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
  • Provide technical leadership in interpreting P&IDs, contracts, and complex technical requirements to define system architecture, design standards, and project execution strategies.
  • Establish and govern engineering methodologies and calculations for the sizing, selection, and performance of critical mechanical systems.
  • Lead development of equipment specifications and procurement strategies; act as the technical authority for vendor qualification, selection, and risk evaluation.
  • Review and approve vendor designs, testing programs, and documentation to ensure compliance with applicable codes, contractual requirements, and internal engineering standards.
  • Define, maintain, and continuously improve standard drawings, specifications, and design practices, including initiatives focused on cost optimization, reliability, and lifecycle performance.
  • Ensure integration of parent company, regulatory, and industry code requirements into system designs and supplier deliverables.
  • Direct engineering execution plans and schedules, coordinating with vendors and internal stakeholders to achieve quality, cost, and delivery objectives.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues, providing guidance to customers, vendors, field teams, and internal engineering organizations.
  • Establish and drive engineering processes, metrics, and corrective action programs to improve quality, reduce nonconformance, and optimize engineering resources.
  • Provide regular technical updates, risk assessments, and recommendations to management to support informed project and program decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering required.
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of technical experience required. Preference is experience with skid manufacturing, rotating equipment and static equipment with an EPC. Power Plant, Japan-related or other
  • The preferred type of engineer for this position will come from another OEM, a skid manufacturing or an EPC company. Skid/packaged equipment, rotating equipment, and/or static equipment manufacturing experience being the most desired. Outside of having manufacturing experience, experience with specifying rotating equipment, heat exchangers, and static equipment is beneficial.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, Acrobat Writer, Excel, etc.). Knowledge of database, project management, graphics, technical diagrams, flow-charts, etc.
  • Exceptional communication, strategic thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel to project sites twice a year, domestically and/or internationally
