About this role

Applicants must have current authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

The Managing Attorney will be responsible for using his or her knowledge and skills to advocate for the company in legal collections matters, developing and enhancing the company's processes, and helping to maintain the company's ethical and compliance standards. This position is also responsible for managing the performance and duties of other team members (both other attorneys and support staff), and be responsible for ensuring that operations in locations under the Managing Attorney's responsibility are consistent with company policy and applicable law. The position may report to a Regional Managing Attorney of Legal Collections. Alternatively, it may report to a Vice President in the legal organization or to the Director of Legal Collection.


Responsibilities
Assisting with enhancements to business-area processes. Collaborate with other in-house counsel and outside attorneys in pursuit of company goals and objectives.

Communicating with clients regarding current legal and regulatory issues.

Managing direct reports and their subordinates. Development of process, workflow and training documentation specific to areas within scope of responsibility, and ensuring that direct reports and their subordinates receive appropriate training.

Pursuing collections in the legal channel on defaulted consumer receivables, consistent with company policies and applicable law. Applying a strong understanding of applicable collections policies as well as federal and state regulatory issues. Ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, and adherence to court procedures and processes.

Working on special projects as required.


Education

Required: Master/Advanced

Required: Must be barred in the state of Maryland.  Juris Doctor from an accredited school.

Experience

Required: 7+ Experience as a front-line collection attorney and successfully managing collections of others. Strong knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework affecting the debt buying and debt collection industries including: FDCPA, FCRA, GLBA and related state statutes. Familiarity with collections software including JST, CLS, Q-Law, Cogent or similar systems. Strong critical thinking and strategic skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize, and work in a rapidly changing environment.

Starting Compensation

Annual Salary: $113,400.00 - $147,299.00 (Amount based on office location, relevant experience, skills, and competencies)
