Job Description:

Microchip Technology Inc. is seeking a motivated software intern to join our team. In this role, you will contribute to the development and optimization of FPGA programming software tools, focusing on modernizing the tool’s infrastructure. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including SQA, UI/UX designers, and documentation, to deliver robust and efficient solutions.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in software development and electronic design automation (EDA) tools within a leading technology company.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the evolution of software tools by supporting migration to modern programming standards and environments.
  • Assist in upgrading and integrating software components and libraries to ensure reliability, maintainability, and performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance the user experience and interface design using industry-standard frameworks like QT.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and practices.
  • Engage in debugging, testing, and documentation activities to support high-quality software delivery.
  • Provide input to the documentation team to ensure accurate and user-friendly materials.
  • Participate in design reviews, unit testing, and code reviews.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • 1–2 years of experience developing C++ based desktop applications.
  • Solid foundation in C++ programming, with exposure to modern C++ standards.
  • Understanding of object-oriented design principles and software architecture.
  • Familiarity with desktop application development and cross-platform considerations.
  • Experience or coursework in using Qt for graphical user interface development.
  • Basic knowledge of build systems (e.g., makefiles, CMake) and software compilation processes.
  • Comfort working in Linux development environments.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and legacy codebases.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective English communication skills, both verbal and written.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Exposure to upgrading or integrating third-party libraries in software projects.
  • Experience with source code management tools (Git, SVN, ClearCase).
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (Bash, Python, TCL) for build automation or development tasks.
  • Understanding of FPGA tools, EDA software, or related hardware/software integration concepts.
  • Knowledge of software development best practices, including code review and documentation.
  • Interest in UI/UX design and modernizing user interfaces.
