The Ground Mission Coordinator (GMC) is the primary ground-based integrator for manned Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions supporting U.S. border protection operations. The GMC synchronizes aircrew execution with customer priorities, tasking authorities, airspace requirements, and operational constraints to ensure safe, compliant, and effective mission outcomes. This role maintains real-time mission situational awareness, manages dynamic re-tasking, coordinates communications and information flow between air and ground stakeholders, and ensures accurate mission documentation and reporting in accordance with contract requirements, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and applicable federal regulations.

The GMC operates within a 24/7 mission environment and routinely interfaces with flight crews, site operations leadership, maintenance, liaison officers, and government/customer representatives. The position is responsible for proactive risk management, deconfliction, continuity of operations during contingencies, and preservation of operational security (OPSEC) and sensitive information handling

 

Role and Responsibilities 

  • Serve as the ground-based mission command-and-control focal point for active manned ISR sorties supporting government/customer objectives.
  • Translate customer priorities and tasking into executable mission plans; coordinate pre-mission brief content and mission products as required by contract.
  • Maintain continuous situational awareness of aircraft status, sensor coverage, airspace restrictions, weather impacts, fuel/endurance, comms availability, and evolving operational constraints.
  • Coordinate real-time re-tasking, target/area-of-interest updates, and collection priority shifts while ensuring aircrew workload, safety, and regulatory compliance are maintained.
  • Manage and deconflict communications pathways (voice/data/chat) among aircrew, operations center personnel, customer representatives, and other mission partners, ensuring accurate and timely information flow.
  • Ensure adherence to SOPs, Rules of Engagement/Use (as contractually defined), privacy/civil liberties protections, and data-handling requirements for sensitive operational information.
  • Coordinate contingency actions (lost comm, divert/abort, sensor outage, emergency response support, maintenance issues) and document mission impacts and decisions.
  • Track mission metrics and deliverables (sortie timelines, coverage, priority task completion, anomalies) and generate required reports, logs, and after-action summaries.
  • Maintain accurate mission logs, reports, records and ensure timely submission of contract deliverables, including shift handover notes and continuity logs.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), training, and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes.

 

 

 

Skills and Experience 

Required:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of ISR Aviation experience in mission coordination, intelligence operations, as a manned Airborne Sensor Operator, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of ISR Aviation experience in multi-crewed platforms
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite programs
  • Skilled in the use of tactical military radios, internet relay chat programs, flight-following software, and airborne EO/IR sensor manipulation
  • Experience with theater specific Special Instructions (SPINs), Rules of Engagement (ROE), and Special Operating Procedures (SOPs)

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Intelligence or Security Studies, Information Systems, or a related discipline).
  • 3+ years of prior deployment rotation experience.
  • Special Operations (SOF) Background.
  • Previous SOF ISR Liaison Officer (LNO).
  • Previous SOF ISR Tactical Controller (ITC).
  • Previous Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC), Tactical Air Control Party (TACP), Tactical Systems Operator (TSO).
  • Previous COCO Manned-Airborne Sensor Operator (ASO).
  • Held or currently holds a U.S. Air Force 1A8X2 AFSC.
  • Previous Mode 1 and 3 certifications.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications 

  • Ability to meet program training, DoD medical examination requirements for deployment, any additional pre-deployment contractual requirements, and ability to maintain deployable status.
  • Must be able to accomplish all duties with little or no assistance.
  • Must have good command of the English language, oral and written.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work


 
This is a full-time non-exempt position with daily working hours for this position varying Monday through Sunday while deployed. Hours and work shifts may vary in accordance with business needs. You will be scheduled to forward deploy/work approximately 60-90 days CONUS/OCONUS followed by rotation off-site for approximately 60-90 days. Rotation schedules might be adjusted to meet program requirements.

Work Environment
 
This position is primarily a CONUS/OCONUS deployed position, though some remote work may be required while not deployed. During deployment, employees may be living under field conditions and must be able to work with little supervision in austere or arduous environments. The work environment varies based on applicable contract requirements.

50-65% to CONUS and OCONUS locations.
