About this role

As a Battery Cell Engineer at Meta’s Reality Labs, you will help architect and implement the next generation battery-based products for the future of wearable devices. You will directly own the design, implementation, and validation of cells across product lifecycle from initial conception to mass production. You will also be involved in researching, qualifying and productizing new battery technologies including new materials, form factors, and product use cases.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Li-ion cells for consumer electronics applications working with a cross-functional team of mechanical, electrical, reliability and safety engineers
  • Work with vendors to mass produce cells in a cost-effective way
  • Develop specifications and qualification methods for cell performance and reliability
  • Conduct testing, evaluation, and failure analysis of cells during new product development, reliability testing, and potential field returns
  • Evaluate emerging cell technologies, suitability for consumer electronics applications, and timelines for commercial introduction
  • Work with external partners to demonstrate and accelerate new technology introduction
  • Travel requirements: 10-15%


Minimum Qualifications

  • MS in Material Science, Electrochemistry, or Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of direct experience in Li-ion battery development including components such as electrodes, electrolytes, separators, additives etc
  • Knowledge of electrochemistry as it relates to Li-ion batteries in a production environment
  • Experience in battery characterization to meet application performance requirements and regulatory compliance
  • Knowledge of process statistics and experience in setting up design of experiments
  • Experience modeling of battery phenomenon including impedance increases, cycle life prediction, calendar life aging
  • Experience working with offshore partners
  • Experience communicating with and working collaboratively with Product Design engineers and other hardware/software cross-functional functions

$144,000/year to $204,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
