Merrick & Company is looking for Senior Mechanical Equipment Designer to join a team of engineering and design personnel serving the Nuclear Services & Technology Business Unit in our project office in Aiken, SC. This group specializes in the design of prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment and custom-designed, mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials.

 

Pay range for this position is $40.25 - $52.00 per hour. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.


WHAT YOU'LL DO

Senior designer works directly with and organizes small teams to produce 3D models, drawings, and fabrication packages of custom equipment, independently and with direction from the project engineer. Typical equipment includes containment systems (gloveboxes, hot cells, cleanrooms), material handling equipment, small scale process piping & equipment, furnace systems, metal working systems (mills, lathes, rolling machines) and pressure vessels.

 

Detailed design activities include preparation of component, subassembly, and main assembly Creo (Pro/E) models; creating detailed fabrication drawing packages; evaluating and selecting purchased components; creating detailed Bills of Materials and completing equipment datasheets. Establishes model structure and drawing tree architecture for distinct deliverables and is responsible for establishing and maintaining file naming conventions and Windchill folders. Directs the activities of less experienced team members to produce final product. Provides checking support for deliverables. Design activities are conducted following regimented quality assurance / quality control procedures.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in related field.
  • Must demonstrate expert proficiency with Creo (Pro/E) and Windchill.
  • Familiarity with other 3D systems (CATIA, SolidWorks or equal).
  • Demonstrated experience leading small groups of designers.
  • Demonstrated capability in the design of custom equipment and/or containment systems, development of design documentation including fabrication drawings, equipment datasheets and design record documents.
  • Must have the ability to acquire a security clearance.
  • Client projects for this position require US Citizenship.

  • Associates Degree
  • 2D software (AutoCAD) and Autodesk Revit.
  • Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in the DOE and DOD market segments.
  • Hands-on experience with our typical equipment.
  • Local candidate preferred.
