Purpose and Scope

During before and after school hours extended learning programs, assists in providing age-appropriate instruction and recreational activities for students in the Extended Learning Program (ELP) after-school program for students in PreK – 12 at assigned school site in an extended learning setting.  Observe student behavior to and provide appropriate redirection for their safety and well-being.  Assists with instructional tasks, meal service, personal care and related work as required.  Complies with all applicable District policies and procedures, state and federal laws and regulations, and standards of quality and safety. Works under the direct supervision of the ELP Site Supervisor according to set procedures.

Essential Job Functions

  • During before and after school hours extended learning programs, guides a developmentally appropriate program of activities for school-age children in PreK – 12 grades in accordance with the Tennessee State Department of Education standards of School-Administered Child Care (Chapter 0520-12-01) and the public extended day outline.
  • Follows all applicable District policies and procedures, state and federal laws and regulations, and standards of quality and safety. Explains policies, procedures, laws and regulations to staff and parents when necessary.
  • Models behaviors that reflect knowledge and understanding of special needs, growth and development patterns of children in PreK - 12 grades and appropriate activities for that age group.
  • Guides specific group(s) of children as assigned. Guides their activities which may include literacy enrichment, instructional interventions, homework assistance, meal time, recreational and structured play and special events.
  • Observes and redirects student behavior to provide for the safety and well-being of all children in the program.
  • Provides instructional support and homework assistance as needed.
  • Compiles, prepares, and organizes materials for instruction, arts and crafts and other activities.
  • Assists in cleaning and storing of materials after completion of activities.
  • Assists students with special needs and/or in need of special attention.
  • Provides assistance with daily living routines, skills and concepts including personal hygiene, toileting, dressing, self-feeding.  May assist with physical health needs and adjusting special/adaptive equipment for student use.  Lifts or assists students in and out of special needs equipment as necessary.
  • Assists in implementing behavioral objectives. Models appropriate social and play skills.  Observes students' behavior and redirects disruptive behavior if possible.  May work with individual students to help them adjust behaviorally in social situations. 
  • Performs routine clerical tasks as required, including preparing reports and records, copying, and filing documents, entering and retrieving computer data, preparing notices and newsletters, receiving and responding to e-mails.
  • May coordinate and/or participate in special programs or projects as assigned and may perform specialized duties as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    A program Site Worker shall be at least twenty-one (21) years of age, and shall meet the minimum qualifications listed below:

    Childcare experience preferred

     

    Shall complete at least twelve (12) hours of professional development each school year.
