Purpose and Scope

The position of Real-Time Safety Center Associate is responsible for the complete operation of the 24-hour, 365-day Real-Time Safety Center Operation, to include dispatching, monitoring intrusion alarms, card access system, airphone system  and video surveillance cameras to detect and/or deter criminal or suspicious activity, identifying real life threats and answering incoming emergency and non-emergency calls immediately identifying assessing the information and making the appropriate decision on the call. This is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week operation three shifts to include holidays. This position is responsible for taking reports, entering data into the computer aided dispatch (CAD) system, communicating with management, Mobile Security Officers, School Resource Officer, law enforcement, Emergence Management Technicians, and other relevant parties.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for performing all duties included in the operation of the Real-Time Safety Center to include dispatching, monitoring alarms and cameras, answering calls, and entering information in the computer aided dispatch (CAD) system.
  • Receive calls and serve as the first point of contact for emergency and non-emergency situations, immediately analyzing the caller’s information and requesting appropriate emergency and/or non-emergency service personnel in real time.
  • Communicate with MCSC officers, management, emergency personnel or other relevant parties via phone, console, and/or radio in emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Monitor security intrusion alarms, surveillance cameras, card access and airphone systems throughout the district including all schools and other facilities daily according to the District policies and departmental operational procedures to ensure the safety of people and properties are secured.
  • Assist with fire alarm calls through coordination with the fire department, law enforcement, Security Resource Officers, and MSCS staff.
  • Document all incident reports and/or calls in CAD (computer aided dispatch) system.
  • Attend annual in-service training to maintain job certifications.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical practices pertaining to information received during employment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or designated.
  • Assists in coordinating mutual aid emergencies
  • Provide emergency medical instructions to callers
  • Monitor GPS tracking system, utilize mapping software to locate the best and fastest routes, always keep track of MSCS Officers to ensure their safety
  • Performing routine clerical duties
  • Prioritizes emergency situations
  • Follow district policy and procedures, all protocols, state and federal laws,
  • Ensures intrusion alarms are properly set up for operation and perform regular maintenance checks.
  • Set up, adjust, and monitor the process, including making cross-checks to troubleshoot any irregularities in the equipment.
  • Immediately interpret critical data while viewing images or video and take appropriate action to protect property and lives.
  • Staying attentive to the work being performed and avoiding distractions.
  • Use security measures that prevent or mitigate a variety of crimes on the district property.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or designated.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in a related area; Plus, two (2) years’ experience working in a 24-hour Call Center, or a 24-hour secured environment involving monitoring, call taking, or dispatching in an emergency; OR an equivalent combination of related education, training, and/or experience totaling six (6) years. REQUIRES Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification or must obtain within 90Days of employment. (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED).

     

    Degree Equivalency Formula:

     

    Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

    Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.
