Summary:

The level II Histology Technologist prepares histologic slides from human tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by Pathologist.

Responsibilities:

Receives, accessions as required, and prepares tissues and other biological materials using accepted histological techniques; performs proper labeling, fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining, and coverslipping.

Evaluates complex and difficult samples to determine suitable methods of preparation and staining.

May perform Immunohistochemistry and Histochemistry and assist with implementation.

Performs quality control, preventative maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of instruments and stains for optimal performance.

Prepares and evaluates stains, reagents, and solutions necessary for slide preparation following established policies and procedures.

Prepares for and participates in inspections and assists the laboratory in meeting all regulatory guidelines.

Bachelors (Required)Clinical Lab Supervisor License (SU LICENSE) - State of Florida (FL), Clinical Lab Technologist License (TN LICENSE) - State of Florida (FL)

Additional Job Information:

Complexity of Work: Intermediate knowledge of laboratory procedures and instrumentation. Ability to effectively relate and communicate with internal and external customers. Intermediate knowledge of laboratory information systems. Requires critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Required Work Experience: Minimum of three (3) years’ experience required as a Histotechnologist. Other Information: Additional Education Info: Associate’s degree with five (5) years or more of experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree. Bachelor’s degree required to assess competency.Additional Cert/License Info: Florida State License as a Technologist (TN License) or Supervisor (SU License) in the area of responsibility.
