Medata is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator / DevOps Engineer to support and evolve a Linux-based production environment running legacy and modern web application platforms alongside growing DevOps and automation practices. This role blends hands-on systems administration, infrastructure reliability, and platform automation, supporting business-critical applications while enabling continuous improvement and modernization.
What You’ll Do
• Administer and maintain Linux production and corporate systems (RHEL-compatible distributions including RHEL, Rocky Linux, and CentOS; plus BSD variants).
• Support legacy and modern web application platforms, including Java- and Node-based services, traditional web stacks, and middleware.
• Operate and maintain virtualized and clustered infrastructure (VMware, Proxmox, oVirt, Ceph).
• Automate provisioning, configuration, and maintenance using Ansible, Puppet, and scripting.
• Deploy and support containerized and service-based workloads (Docker; Kubernetes exposure a plus).
• Monitor system health, performance, and availability; troubleshoot and resolve production incidents.
• Own system and network security including patching, firewalls, certificates, and access controls.
• Work with networking and storage technologies (NGINX, HAProxy, SMB/NFS/iSCSI, VPNs).
• Collaborate with developers to improve deployment pipelines, operational stability, and scalability.
• Maintain documentation, runbooks, and operational standards.
• Participate in after-hours/on-call support as needed.

What We’re Looking For
• 5+ years experience administering Linux production environments, preferably RHEL-compatible systems.
• Strong troubleshooting across systems, networking, storage, and applications.
• Experience supporting legacy and modern web applications in operational environments.
• Scripting experience (Bash or similar).
• Familiarity with DevOps practices: automation, monitoring, CI/CD awareness.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering teams.
• Self-directed, detail-oriented, and comfortable owning production systems.
Nice to Have
• Kubernetes or cloud-native experience.
• High-availability or clustered database experience.
• Linux, networking, or virtualization certifications.
Location & Schedule
• On-site role in Irvine, CA with scheduled Hybrid work
• Candidates must reside in Southern California
• Occasional nights/weekends for maintenance or incident response
