About this role

Medata is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator / DevOps Engineer to support and evolve a Linux-based production environment running legacy and modern web application platforms alongside growing DevOps and automation practices. This role blends hands-on systems administration, infrastructure reliability, and platform automation, supporting business-critical applications while enabling continuous improvement and modernization.

What You’ll Do

    • Administer and maintain Linux production and corporate systems (RHEL-compatible distributions including RHEL, Rocky Linux, and CentOS; plus BSD variants).

    • Support legacy and modern web application platforms, including Java- and Node-based services, traditional web stacks, and middleware.

    • Operate and maintain virtualized and clustered infrastructure (VMware, Proxmox, oVirt, Ceph).

    • Automate provisioning, configuration, and maintenance using Ansible, Puppet, and scripting.

    • Deploy and support containerized and service-based workloads (Docker; Kubernetes exposure a plus).

    • Monitor system health, performance, and availability; troubleshoot and resolve production incidents.

    • Own system and network security including patching, firewalls, certificates, and access controls.

    • Work with networking and storage technologies (NGINX, HAProxy, SMB/NFS/iSCSI, VPNs).

    • Collaborate with developers to improve deployment pipelines, operational stability, and scalability.

    • Maintain documentation, runbooks, and operational standards.

    • Participate in after-hours/on-call support as needed.

    • Hardware: Dell, HP, Supermicro

What We’re Looking For

    • 5+ years experience administering Linux production environments, preferably RHEL-compatible systems.

    • Strong troubleshooting across systems, networking, storage, and applications.

    • Experience supporting legacy and modern web applications in operational environments.

    • Scripting experience (Bash or similar).

    • Familiarity with DevOps practices: automation, monitoring, CI/CD awareness.

    • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering teams.

    • Self-directed, detail-oriented, and comfortable owning production systems.

Nice to Have

    • Kubernetes or cloud-native experience.

    • High-availability or clustered database experience.

    • Linux, networking, or virtualization certifications.

Location & Schedule

    • On-site role in Irvine, CA with scheduled Hybrid work

    • Candidates must reside in Southern California

    • Occasional nights/weekends for maintenance or incident response
