MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

The Unit Manager manages a specific nursing unit, e.g. a surgical ward, to ensure safe patient care and a positive client experience. They further manage human and other resources to ensure that staff are engaged and processes are optimised.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

  1. Ensure safe patient care by meeting set clinical quality standards according to company policies and procedures
  2. Manage and mitigate clinical risks in the unit
  3. Lead and manage the staff in the unit
  4. Manage the unit's operational and capital expenses according to financial and budget guidelines and ensure optimal utilisation of resources
  5. Manage and actively contribute to a positive client experience in the hospital
  6. Support the achievement of interdepartmental outcomes
  7. Manage key stakeholder relations

REQUIRED EDUCATION

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION:   

Professional Nurse qualification, and Postgraduate Diploma in Health Services Management  or an Accredited Management Qualification OR 5 years of leadership experience in a hospital, and

Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing if managing a specialist unit (e.g. Perioperative Nursing)

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:  

5 years of Professional Nurse experience in a hospital

2 years of leadership experience in a hospital
