Pharmacy Technician - Certified - Inpatient Pharmacy – Medication History

Essential Job Responsibilities/Expectations

  1. Maintains a professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers in accordance with our Service Excellence Standards and Core Values.

  3. Understands the components of the Patient Medication Profile and uses this information for problem resolution.
  4. Understands and utilizes pharmacy software to participate in workflow and assist in resolving medication-related issues 
  5. Uses computer system to maintain accuracy of medication documentation or charges, charging for dispensed medications and crediting medications that are returned to the pharmacy.  
  6. Assists the Pharmacists in the Operation of the Drug Distribution System and participates in staff huddles.
  7. Perform state certified technician tasks as outlined by South Carolina Board of Pharmacy under direct supervision of a pharmacist
  8. Works well with others and as a part of a team.
  9. Maintains Organization and Cleanliness of Work Environment.
  10. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 Additional Responsibilities for MEDICATION HISTORY TECHS: 

  • Understands the components of patient medication profiles. Obtains/documents patient home medication lists, allergy information, and preferred pharmacy in the electronic medical record from relevant sources. 
  • Communicates information to a pharmacist and/or other members of the healthcare team and directs medication-related questions to a pharmacist.
  • Assists in ensuring the continuing operation and performance of the Medication History Technician program (i.e. participation in ongoing education, training new hires, etc), as assigned.
  • Maintains logs and any other monitoring forms/documentation required as assigned.
  • Works assigned schedule in the ED, surgical home, or assigned floor follow up and focuses on assigned patients.
  • Communicates follow-up tasks if unable to fully complete the medication history. Completes any and all follow-up tasks from the day before if/when there is no other medication history technician assigned to floor patients.

Work Schedule: 72 Hours Biweekly. Full Time. 7 days on 7 days off. 10:30pm - 9am.
