Patient Care Type: This is an intensive care unit that is one of the largest neuroscience facilities in the nation. This highly specialized unit provides quality care to adult critically ill, neurologically impaired medical, surgical and trauma patients, including head, spinal cord trauma, and a wide variety of surgical procedures. In addition, the unit provides care and support for patients and families going through the organ donation process. Intracranial monitoring and unstable spinal cord stabilization are unit-specific, high-risk procedures. Prolonged EEG and state-of-the-art brachial plexus monitoring are two of the latest patient care technologies in place. Nursing Team Roles: The interdisciplinary team consists of neurologists, neurosurgeons, critical care service physicians, RNs, PCAs, health unit coordinators, respiratory therapists, social workers, chaplains, physical and occupational therapists, dietitian, clinical nurse specialists, and nursing education specialists. Mayo nursing care model is in use.
The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as a part of the responsibility of their role.
For New Graduate Nurses: Please apply through the Nurse Residency Program posting, which is specifically designed to support New Graduate RNs. Within the Nurse Residency application process, you may indicate work units and specialties of interest. If selected to move forward, you will meet with a Nursing Placement Coordinator who will help you explore Mayo Clinic opportunities that are best aligned with your current and future professional goals. Together, we’ll identify a work area that provides an excellent foundation for your nursing career.

Mayo Clinic has expanded and changed in many ways, but our values remain true to the vision of our founders. Our primary value – The needs of the patient come first – guides our plans and decisions as we create the future of health care. Join us and you'll find a culture of teamwork, professionalism and mutual respect, and most importantly, a life-changing career.
Mayo Clinic was founded in Rochester, Minnesota by brothers Dr. William James Mayo and Dr. Charles Horace Mayo. More than 100 years later, their vision continues to evolve around a single guiding value: "The needs of the patient come first." Today we are the largest integrated, not for-profit medical group practice in the world.
We are recognized for high-quality patient care more than any other academic medical center in the nation. These endorsements are very gratifying, but also humbling. They remind us of the tradition that has been entrusted to each one of us, and the legacy of excellence that we uphold every day.
