Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

The Ophthalmic Assistant I functions as a member of the healthcare team by providing basic ophthalmic, technical and clerical support to assist providers in providing for patient care, comfort, and safety. The individual will complete optometric/ophthalmic tests and measurements as ordered by the provider and will assist providers with procedures. The Ophthalmic Assistant I performs in a manner consistent with Marshfield Clinic Health Systems’ (MCHS) mission, policies, and initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.

Minimum Required: None

Preferred/Optional: Graduate of a medical assistant program.  Successful completion of a medical terminology course.

EXPERIENCE 

Minimum Required: Experience in a medical field or customer service experience.

Preferred/Optional: Experience in Ophthalmology or Optometry.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES 

The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position, which must be maintained in good standing:

Minimum Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association within three months of hire.

Preferred/Optional: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association at time of hire. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant certification awarded by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).
