About this role

Rivers Health is seeking a Per-diem MLT/MT in the Laboratory. This position will be responsible for the following duties:

 

Obtain specimens, performs analysis and reports test results within

department standards and hospital policies and procedures.

 

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

 

Responsible to:  Section Heads, Quality Coordinator, Laboratory

Manager and Pathologist

Nature of supervision received:  Direct

Positions directly supervised:  None

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job.

The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.

 

  1. Collect specimens from patients in a manner that supports the quest

     relations policy of the hospital.

    

  1. Conducts all tests with departmental policy and procedures.

    

  1. Observe and note test results, documenting and retesting any

     procedures that fall out of acceptable range.

    

  1. Ensures adequate supplies are available to complete anticipated

     Volume of test during course of assignment in area.

    

  1. Follows safety and infection control policies of the laboratory and

     all other hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

    

  1. Conduct’s instrument preventive maintenance as required by

     Departmental policies and procedures on all equipment, as directed

     by departmental section head.

    

  1. Performs and documents all quality control as a routine part of

     general testing.

    

  1. Performs proficiency testing as designed by section head in assigned

     area.

 

  1. Demonstrates excellence in customer service skills.

    

  1. Fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration.

 

  1. Participates in quality improvement activities including serving

     on quality improvement teams.

 

  1. Other duties that may be assigned.

    

  1. Complies with Corporate Policies, Departmental Policies and

     Procedures and Personnel Employee Handbook.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:

 

Baccalaureate degree in medical technology or related field plus

eligibility for ASCP and/or associate degree in applied science or related field plus eligibility for certification by ASCP and WV License.

 

 

WORK EXPERIENCE:

 

None. Three years or greater of general staff tech experience preferred.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

 

Must be able to perform vein and/or (capillary) punctures.  Must be able to read and understand laboratory instruction manuals.  Must demonstrate the ability to identify and address the special needs of the ages of patients including neonates, adolescents, pediatrics, and geriatrics and can effectively communicate with the patient.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Must be able see and understand test instruments and results, and have

manual dexterity to handle test equipment, collect specimens and be able to communicate to the patient’s pertinent information concerning the collection of the specimen and test procedures.  Required to handle frequent physical, mental, and emotional demands.
