About the Internship Opportunity with MaRS Health Sciences

The Health Sciences team is seeking an operationally-driven intern to help scale our impact by identifying high-potential startups and investors while streamlining our internal workflows. In this role, you will act as a bridge between ecosystem growth and operational excellence - ensuring that MaRS remains a premier destination for health innovation.


You will play a vital role in managing our intake pipeline and building the "engine" that powers our outreach. Beyond data management, you will be tasked with identifying new ventures and investors to recruit to the MaRS network, creating the efficient processes needed to engage them at scale. This is an ideal role for a student who is passionate about the sector and wants to build the systems that support the next generation of healthcare breakthroughs.


Major tasks the Intern will undertake:

  • Startup & Investor Scouting: Research and identify promising new startups and relevant investors to recruit into the MaRS Health Sciences ecosystem, ensuring a steady pipeline of high-quality leads. Attend industry events and participate in external programs to generate new leads for MaRS.
  • Investor Onboarding & Engagement: In collaboration with other MaRS teams, refine the end-to-end process for onboarding and engaging with our investor network. This includes maintaining a centralized investor database and establishing secure, efficient protocols for sharing key data with both internal and external partners. 
  • External Event Delivery & Representation: Support the execution of external events and represent MaRS within external programs. You will ensure seamless event delivery while acting as a professional point of contact for the Health Sciences team.
  • Resource Development: Lead the creation and standardization of key internal and external resources, such as updating the team page, developing standardized pitch decks, and tracking key performance metrics.
  • Process Automation & Intake: Manage the intake workflow in Salesforce and identify opportunities to automate manual tasks to improve overall team efficiency.
  • Data Visualization & Reporting: Create dashboards and pipeline reports to track recruitment trends, intake metrics, and ecosystem health to support data-driven decision-making.


What You Bring

Required Skills & Experience

  • Currently enrolled in your Master's program at one of the following schools: UofT, Waterloo, McGill U, UBC.
  • Studies in Health Sciences, Engineering, Software are preferred.
  • Experience working with databases or CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Airtable).
  • Strong ability to conduct market research to identify emerging companies and map the investor landscape.
  • Highly organized with the ability to build structured processes out of manual or "messy" data.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to coordinate with internal team members and represent MaRS professionally to external founders and investors.


Great to have (but not required)

  • Familiarity with workflow automation tools like Zapier or Salesforce flows.
  • A baseline understanding of the health landscape, venture capital, or startup incubators.
  • Experience creating "playbooks" or documentation that helps a team replicate successful tasks.
  • Experience building basic dashboards in Salesforce, Excel, or Google Sheets to show progress against goals.


The Fine Print

The internship runs May 4 - August 21, 2026.


The expected annual base salary range (prorated for the term) for this role is $42,000 - $51,000, which is determined based on year of study, candidate’s skills, knowledge, experience, and internal equity.

Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada, reside in Ontario for the duration of the internship and be willing to work out of our Toronto office (101 College Street) a minimum of 3 days per week.
