Summary:  Operates machine(s) to produce quality parts in a proficient manner.   Examine machines and mechanical equipment to diagnose any sources of trouble.  Perform repairs and adjustments as necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs start-stop procedures including, but not limited to: machine start-up, loading of raw materials, detecting malfunctions, making accurate tooling adjustments, checking parts according to quality standards and machine shutdown.
  • Completes all records, forms, and electronic data entry as required.
  • Performs preventative machine maintenance.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, temperature or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Recognizes and reports machine malfunctions and part discrepancies to Supervisor.
  • Ensures tooling is maintained and serviced as needed.
  • Ensures safety procedures are being followed.
  • Operate other machines as needed.

Education and/or Experience                                                   

High school diploma or equivalent;; or 6 months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Two year certificate from trade school helpful; Self-motivated and able to learn at a fast pace.

Language Skills                                                                                                           

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills                                                     

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability                                             

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills, Qualifications and Abilities                                             

Previous experience using a computer for data entry required. HMI and PLC experience required. Mechanical aptitude required.  Use of the following tools:  micrometer, calipers, miscellaneous hand tools. Must be able to pass a driver's exam to operate a forklift.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk, hear, climb or balance.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move 25 to 60 pounds (30% of the time lifting 40+ pounds).  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision.  Must be able to operate a fork lift and other mobile equipment.  Respirator exams are given on an annual basis (or more often if necessary) and must be passed in order to perform this job.  Must pass a pre-hire drug screen and physical fitness exam.

Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is regularly exposed to extreme heat while operating the zinc mold machines.  While operating the zinc mold machines PPE is required that covers the majority of the upper body and must be worn at all times while operating this machine.   The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. #LI-DNI
