Overview

Marin Community Clinics, founded in 1972, is today, a multi-clinic network with a wide array of integrated primary care, dental, behavioral, specialty and referral services. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we provide vital health services to almost 40,000 individuals annually in Marin County. The Clinics regularly receive national awards from the Health Resources and Services Administrations (HRSA). Orthodontists specialize in the diagnosis, prevention, and correction of teeth and jaw irregularities. One of their primary job functions is to design, fabricate, or use orthodontic appliances to realign teeth and jaws in order to allow for normal functioning and to improve appearance. An orthodontist performs examinations in order to assess patient needs, and is responsible for fitting patients for dentures, braces, and other orthodontic appliances. To be successful as an orthodontist candidate must have a desire to help people, an interest in oral health, and be able to provide exceptional patient care.

Work Schedule:

Mondays from 8:00am - 5:00pm

Fridays from 8:00am - 5:00pm

Saturdays from 8:00am - 5:00pm

 

Salary Range:

The salary range stated below is based on a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week (1.0 FTE).  

Responsibilities

  • Using various diagnostic tests to determine the condition of patients’ teeth.
  • Studying patient records, including dental histories, plaster models of teeth, and X-rays to develop treatment plans for patients.
  • Discussing treatment plans and cost estimates with patients.
  • Treating occlusion issues and other oral conditions.
  • Instructing assistants on orthodontic procedures and techniques.
  • Collaborating with other specialists, such as dentists and oral surgeons, to coordinate orthodontic services within the overall treatment plan.
  • Fitting patients for various orthodontic appliances.
  • Scheduling regular checkups with patients to make adjustments to orthodontic appliances, such as tightening braces, and tracking patient progress.
  • Educating patients about on-going orthodontic care and explaining proper oral hygiene methods for good oral health.
  • Providing referrals to other professionals, such as oral surgeons, when needed.
  • Expected to treat other patients that are on the clinic’s schedule in addition to treating assigned patients.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Must possess an active DDS/DMD from an ADA-accredited dental school with a license to practice in California.
  • Completed a specialized, accredited 2 - 3 year residency rogram in orthodontics.
  • Current BLS certification is required.
  • Valid DEA license required.
  • Prior experience working in community health environment a plus.
  • EPIC Electronic Health Records experience a plus.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of various molds and orthodontic appliances.
  • Superb dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Outstanding patient management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: 

  • Fulfill immunization and fit for duty regulatory requirements.
  • Finger dexterity, steady arms and hands, a good near vision and the ability to discern reverse images.
  • Prolonged standing, stooping twisting, bending and reaching.
  • May be required to occasionally lift at least 20 – 25lbs occasionally.
