About the Position

The Engineer Associate utilizes their technical knowledge and abilities to complete tasks that are often of high difficulty, requiring application of standard and non-standard techniques and procedures, and requiring independent judgment. This position works under the supervision of a licensed engineer and will focus on civil engineering plan review for permit projects. As a member of the Plan Review Team, this position actively supports the community by interacting with property owners, developers, contractors, and engineering consultants to facilitate the performance of construction activities within the County right-of-way.

We Require

  • Four years of professional pre-registration civil engineering experience; Or

  • Four years of experience leading and performing senior-level technical engineering work; Or 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field

  • Certification as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) may substitute for the experience 

  • An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis

Registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam through the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration

Job Contributions

  • Review plans and related documents for compliance with applicable standards for work occurring within Maricopa County right-of-way

  • Coordinate with coworkers and others to ensure fairness and consistency in technical plan and document reviews

  • Provide technical guidance to applicants regarding permit requirements; interpret and explain County rules and regulations, respond to requests for information; investigate and follow up on technical inquiries

  • Review projects in the field during design and construction; review field revisions for projects under construction

  • Coordinate requirements between various divisions, departments, and other agencies and municipalities.

  • Other job duties as assigned

Working Conditions

  • This position requires the employee to be in the office/field or customer-facing for all hours worked

  • Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly, or requires walking or standing to a significant degree

  • Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions

  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration

Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, REVU Bluebeam plan review software, and proprietary permitting management software

Protective equipment required

Hard hat and safety vest
