Now hiring a Disciplinary Hearing Officer at WILKINSON COUNTY CORRECTIONAL FACILITY
Position Summary:
Reports to the deputy warden, operations. Responsible for conducting fair and impartial hearings of inmates in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, Management & Training Corporation (MTC), and Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) directives.
Essential Functions:
- Review investigation results with the Chief of Security or Deputy Warden; then determine if there is sufficient evidence to support the charge prior to disciplinary report being filed.
- Ensure all facts are introduced at each hearing and determine the credibility of the facts presented.
- Ensure the narrative report describes the offense(s) with which the inmate is charged, and that any reasonable person can understand.
- Write request for continuance.
- Call witnesses as necessary to present evidence.
- Question witnesses via telephone or in person. Record statements.
- Interview informants and determine how knowledge was gained.
- Protect the identity of informants for security reasons.
- Ensure inmate rights are not violated.
- Testify at disciplinary hearings.
- Make written notation on hearing records.
- Requires walking and climbing stairs.
- Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
- Maintain accountability of inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.
It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years’ experience in criminal justice or related field required, one (1) year of which must be in a supervisory capacity.
- Valid driver's license in the state of Mississippi with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management
Post Hire Requirements:
Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.

- The officer is responsible for conducting fair and impartial hearings for inmates, ensuring compliance with correctional standards and directives, and reviewing investigation results to determine if sufficient evidence supports the charges. Essential functions include introducing facts, determining witness credibility, questioning witnesses, protecting informant identities, and ensuring inmate rights are upheld during the process.
