Job Summary: 
A Materials Handler I (Forklift Driver I) is responsible for storing, moving, and handling materials. Working as a materials handler doesn't require formal education but does entail extensive on-the-job training. A materials handler has a very structured work environment to minimize safety risks. Each job is planned in detail and safety issues are addressed before a job begins.

 

Hours of Operation:

Monday through Thursday

2nd Shift: 3:30PM - 2:00AM + $1.00 shift differential

 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
The list of essential duties and responsibilities, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the task to be performed. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein is such duties are a logical assignment to the position.  
•    Stage product for use.
•    Maintain inventory controls.
•    Powered Industrial Truck certified.
•    Feed the lines.
•    Follows all safety procedures and regulations including wearing special protective gear and disposing of materials as regulated by law.
•    Follows direction and communicates clearly.
•    Physically moves materials and uses heavy equipment to move materials on a regular basis.
•    Contribute to Hearthside daily inbound and outbound operations – Shipping/Receiving
•    Operate forklifts to pick, replenish, shuttle and load/unload orders.
•    May count weigh or record numbers of units or materials moved or handled.
•    Ensure safe work environment
•    Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: 
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

Language Skills:
Able to communicate and take direction from the lead and/or the supervisor.

Education and/or Experience: 
A high school diploma or GED certification and be at least 18 years of age, required. Previous Materials handling experience required. 
Must be forklift certified within 90 days.  
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent to draw and interpret bar graphs. Must be able to “side shift” and have worked with stand-up forklifts and extended forks.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment: 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to standing for prolonged periods; frequently walks, grasps, lifts, holds, or feels objects; occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls.  The employee frequently is required to use manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination when working and handling products or machinery. The employee is subject to assist and support up to 90 pounds with varying amounts of assistance on a reoccurring basis.  The employee is required to have corrected vision and hearing within normal range and the ability to operate equipment. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee could have work conditions that are extremely cold or extremely hot. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
