The Logistics Lead is responsible for the direct operation of the Material Movement. They must coordinate and supervise employees in the handling of materials. They will help train and motivate employees in their work standards, while at the same time recommending disciplinary actions according to the plant rules and regulations. Must be able to operate forklift to load ingredients, packaging, etc. onto customer trucks at loading docks in a safe, efficient and timely manner. Transports materials to proper holding area. Must keep work area clean and organized.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for all safety issues; including accident reports
  • Follow and enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's) and company policies at all times; must be familiar with G.M.P. requirements and the employee handbook
  • Assign employees to their work stations
  • Direct employees activities
  • Ensure product meet quality standards before it is loaded
  • Take various checks to ensure quality and also make sure that all other tests that are assigned to employees are taken
  • Assist in setting crew levels to promote efficiency
  • Responsible for training and maintaining a competent crew
  • May suggest work orders that might be needed
  • Assist in inventory control
  • Suggest disciplinary action that may be needed
  • Responsible for various reports
  • Responsible for providing input for the evaluation of the employees
  • Promote harmonious working relations between employees in all departments and all levels of management
  • Recommend methods to improve efficiency
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Load materials
  • Take inventory whenever needed
  • Support production by taking supplies to production and back to warehouse
  • Operate straight fork, and slip sheeter and clamp
  • Check conditions of fork lift at beginning of shift
  • Complete forms used in department
  • Verbally communicate problems to supervisor, production, data entry and accounting.
  • Work independently with little or no supervision
  • Comply with Company rules, regulations and policies
  • Comply with all safety, health and environmental regulations as prescribed by law and Company policies
  • Communicate in English to give and acknowledge instructions and problems
  • Meet Company attendance standards of start and end times for work as scheduled
  • Perform other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to work in a fast paced environment, while at the same time making sound decisions
  • Ability to use hands and fingers
  • Ability to see, hear and talk
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in light to moderate noise levels; hearing protection may be required
  • Physical and mental ability to work in excess of 40 hours per week
  • Ability to effectively present information to employees or management
  • Repetitive reaching overhead, under and across throughout shift
  • Perform general housekeeping, including sweeping, mopping, etc.
  • Ability to distinguish colors
  • Possess basic math skills to perform simple counting, adding and subtracting
  • Ability to work in wet, humid areas
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and tasks

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Maintain harmonious working relations with employees from all departments
  • Maintain harmonious working relations with management from all levels
  • Communicate effectively with all employees and management
  • Able to keep their own feelings/opinions, whether work related or otherwise, from affecting their performance

SUPERVISORY:

  • Able to work independently at most times

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred
  • Basic to mid-level math and reading skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong self-confidence and leadership skills
  • Possess forklift license or ability to obtain one through Hearthside Foods
  • Ability to work with little supervision
  • Understands basic concept of First In/First Out (FIFO) product rotation
  • Must be accurate and detail-oriented
