·       Make an Impact! This position is available immediately in the lab of Scott Dessain, M.D., Ph.D., at the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research. The Dessain laboratory studies the human immune response to mucosal pathogens. The Lab has developed novel tools for delivery of mucosal antigens using the edible blue-green algae, spirulina (Arthrospira platensis). This role studies poliovirus antigens as a model for inducing IgA immunity against enteroviruses. The role will investigate the expression and antigenic structure of viral proteins expressed in spirulina and will test their ability to induce neutralizing mucosal IgA responses in vivo. This research will establish a safe and effective strategy for control of poliovirus as well as a generalizable approach to replacing injected and live virus immunizations against a diversity of mucosal pathogens.

Experience: 
Highly motivated candidates with PhD or MD/PhD degree. Candidates with research experience in microbiology, virology, immunology, and/or animal models of infectious disease, with experience in PCR, CRISPR, tissue culture, prokaryotic protein expression, immunoassays, and molecular/cell biology methodologies are encouraged to apply.

Education: 
For basic and clinical research: Ph.D. degree in biological sciences or MD required.
