The project: Sizewell C - Building a fleet of safe, reliable nuclear power stations in the UK to secure a low-carbon energy future. The SZC project is a diverse and collaborative organisation committed to engaging stakeholders, obtaining development consent and preparing for construction of the power station.
With the construction of Hinkley Point C successfully underway, our client is now developing plans to build an identical power station on the Suffolk coast, known as Sizewell C (SZC). Mace has been supporting on the development of the Sizewell C project since 2011 and continues to act as a key framework supplier under a variety of workstreams.

The Geotechnical Engineer will be part of the engineering and technical function within the civil work program organisation, reporting to the Geotechnical Manager, to manage the geotechnical risks, set up and endorse the geotechnical requirements on behalf of the SZC Client and ensure the requirements are being abided to by the Designers and Contractors.

Please note: This role will be based in our London office with hybrid working available.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Supporting onshore and offshore ground investigations.
  • Managing site trials and ground improvement activities.
  • Overseeing earthworks and material testing.
  • Managing groundwater control and flood‑prevention measures.
  • Supporting foundations, marine works and tunnelling.
  • Assessing ground movements near nuclear assets.
  • Maintaining the digital ground model.
  • Overseeing instrumentation and monitoring.
  • Coordinating with designers and delivery teams.
  • Engaging with regulators and key stakeholders.

You’ll need to have:

  • Strong geotechnical expertise across design and construction stages.
  • Proven experience delivering complex multidisciplinary engineering projects.
  • Chartered civil or geotechnical engineer with relevant degree.
  • Effective communicator with understanding of construction, design and stakeholder interfaces.
