About this role

SUMMARY 

The Registered Nurse delivers care to Adult and Critical Care patients by utilizing the nursing process and Critical Care nursing standards of practice. The nurse maintains competency and applies scientific knowledge utilizing evidence based practice necessary to meet patient needs. Demonstrates progression of professional development and is supportive of the hospital’s mission, vision and values.   


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 


1. Utilizes evidence based practice in the delivery of patient care 

2. Participates with quality initiatives, research or evidence based activities 

3. Assumes responsibility for seeking data to support care given 

4. Demonstrate the commitment to ongoing evaluation of quality and effectiveness of nursing practice in Critical Care. 

5. Supports unit standard of practice and performance improvement measures to enhance quality of care and service to the patient. 

6. Understands and adheres to Loretto Hospital’s compliance standards as they appear in the Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy. 

7. Develops a therapeutic relationship with patients and families through communication and acknowledgement of patient /family perceptions of health and illness and mutual goal setting for optimal outcomes 

8. Creates constructive partnerships with peers, professional nurses and other disciplines to achieve positive patient outcomes 

9. Provides and gives courteous service to patients, visitors, staff and other disciplines both internal/external customers. Ensures that all communications and job activities results in a positive customer experience 

10. Supports and environment conducive to the development and enhancement of working relationships.  

11. Facilitates the department/hospitals ability to meet its goals and objectives. Willing to accept additional assignments or assist others to ensure the continuity of
services. 

12. Demonstrate the ability and willingness to collaborate with the client, significant others and health care providers in providing patient centered care. 

13. Maintains professional attitude with patients/family and other disciplines 

14. Demonstrates required knowledge and skills to efficiently consider individual’s diagnosis, diverse culture, religious beliefs, age, and sexual orientation. 

15. Demonstrates the use of the nursing process in analyzing patient condition and implementing the plan of care for optimal outcomes 

16. Demonstrates the ability to recognize adverse patient condition and notifies physician appropriately 

17. Effectively utilizes problem solving skills to prevent adverse patient events 

18. Consistently prioritizes patient care needs and intervenes with high priority first 

19. Demonstrates competency with Critical Care Skills 

20. Demonstrate effective communication skills with patient/family and other members of the health care team 

21. Assumes responsibility for compliance with mandatory competencies 

22. Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner complying with safety standards and goals. 

23. Consistently demonstrates responsibility in knowing standards of critical care nursing, hospital policies and procedures  

24. Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Hospital regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified. 

25. Able to effectively assume the charge nurse role  

26. Participates in unit meetings and CCU decision making 

27. Assumes role of preceptor for new hired RN’s 

28. Assumes leadership role in quality initiatives 

29. Acts as a role model for novice nurse 

 JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate from an accredited or approved school of nursing.
  • Current RN License   
  • Bachelor Degree preferred. 
  • One year of medical surgical or critical care experience required.  
  • Critical care or ED course preferred.  
  • The RN must be knowledgeable of current nursing practices. 
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, Crisis Prevention Intervention
    certification preferred.
