SUMMARY

Assists patients in registration for obtaining services at Loretto Hospital; obtains personal and insurance information to complete correct registration; verifies Medical Record Number and Physician assignment; accurately completes consent and all admission forms required by Government Agencies; explains forms to patient/family members and obtains required signatures; works closely with Nursing Administration, Physicians and Units for prompt bed assignments. Assists in other areas as needed, maintains departmental records and performs related duties as assigned.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greets all people entering the admitting department in a courteous, articulate and professional manner.  
  • Completes registration data entry in a timely, accurate and complete manner.
  • Obtains insurance and ID and scans into patient PHI file.
  • Reviews patient history and verifies with patient demographics and phone number.
  • Secures the Medical Record Number and physician assignment is accurate.
  • Completes insurance verification on all patient registrations.  Proper documentation is done according to procedures.
  • Ensures that all required forms are explained and all signatures are obtained.
  • Follow the safety policy of the hospital making certain that are bands are in place for patient identification.
  • Process ABN for Medicare patients and secures that the form is explained and signed by patient.
  • Secures that MSP questionnaire is completed by Medicare and Medicare HMO patients.
  • Secures that OBS notification for Medicare and Medicare HMO is explained and signed by patient.
  • Completes pre-registration on all scheduled patients.
  • Responsible for gathering, safe keeping and retrieval of patient valuables.
  • Contacts physician for completion of death certificate, according to the State of Illinois Law
  • Complete Q/A on all registration complete to secure accurate information.
  • Informs and assists patients/family members with Financial Assistance Applications.
  • Organize work procedures to generate acceptable levels of productivity.
  • Provide support to co-workers when needed.
  • Adjusts work schedule to accommodate changing priorities.
  • Follows established emergency, infection control and/or universal precautions procedures as required.
  • Maintains work area and equipment according to standards and policies.
  • Attends mandatory in-service related to safety and/or infection control.
  • Provide customer assistance in a professional and friendly manor
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understands and adheres to Loretto Hospital’s compliance standards as they appear in the Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy. 
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Hospital regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified. 
  • Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED); plus 3 years related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three or more years’ experience in health care patient billing area. 
  • Data entry skills using a business computer.
