About this role

This position is responsible for all United States Indirect tax matters including sales and use tax, and property tax. Reporting to the Vice President of Global Tax, this position will lead a team of internal and external indirect tax professionals on daily indirect tax matters and advise the Vice President of Global Tax on risk and strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Sales & Use Tax

  • Lead the company’s U.S. sales and use tax function, including nexus evaluation, taxability analysis, and compliance oversight.
  • Oversee preparation, review, and timely filing of all sales and use tax returns; ensure accurate remittance of payments and maintenance of proper tax accruals and account reconciliations across the indirect tax function.
  • Ensure that all business license registration requirements are met in every jurisdiction where the Company conducts business.
  • Manage exemption certificate collection, validation, storage, and retention to support tax compliance and audit readiness.
  • Lead the implementation, optimization, and ongoing maintenance of the Company's sales and use tax software platform, including ERP account standardization and mapping.
  • Manage sales and use tax audits, including audit strategy, document preparation, appeals, and negotiations with taxing authorities.
  • Partner with IT, Finance, and other business units to enhance tax automation and ensure alignment with systems and business processes.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes in sales and use tax and communicate implications to leadership.
  • Coordinate with the Company’s M&A team on sales and use tax due diligence, risk identification, acquisition structuring, and post‑acquisition integration of the sales & use tax function.
  • Maintain internal controls over sales and use tax processes to ensure compliance with SOX and corporate policies.
  • Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders regarding taxability of transactions, contracts, and new business initiatives.

Property Tax

  • Lead all aspects of real and personal property tax compliance, including data gathering, return filings, assessment reviews, and appeals.
  • Manage relationships with assessors and taxing authorities to minimize property tax liabilities and resolve assessment issues.
  • Lead property tax audits and negotiate resolutions as needed.
  • Oversee property tax budgets, monthly accruals, and forecasting models; communicate financial impacts to Finance and Operations.
  • Coordinate with Accounting to maintain accurate fixed asset data and ensure alignment between tax and financial records.

Leadership & Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing indirect tax team.
  • Build strong partnerships with Finance, Accounting, Procurement, Real Estate, Legal, and Operations to support compliance and mitigate tax risk.
  • Present tax updates, audit outcomes, and risk assessments to senior leadership.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on process optimization, system efficiency, data accuracy, and enhanced use of tax technology.
  • Support broader corporate initiatives, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, process transformation, and system implementations from an indirect tax perspective.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • Minimum of 15 years of sales and use tax and property tax experience required
  • Must possess comprehensive knowledge of US sales and use tax and property tax regulations
  • Significant experience with sales and use software platform (i.e., Avalara, Vertex, etc.) implementation and use
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize competing initiatives to work effectively in a deadline-oriented environment
  • Ability to work well within the tax department, cross functionally with corporate departments and external tax advisors.
  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Office suite, with the ability to learn new technical skills and systems related to the job
  • Limited amount of travel required.
