Position Summary:
The Medication Technician is a key member of our care team, responsible for safely and accurately administering medications to support the health and well-being of our residents in an enhanced assisted living setting. In addition to providing medications according to physician orders and care plans, this role involves monitoring residents for side effects or changes in condition and documenting observations for the nursing team. We’re looking for a compassionate, detail-oriented professional who enjoys building meaningful relationships with residents while maintaining the highest standards of clinical care in a warm, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Clarify and implement physician orders as necessary
Participate in scheduling, demonstrate flexibility, and cover shifts as needed
Coordinate resident re-admissions from hospital
Assess need for hospital transfers and take necessary steps to ensure smooth transitions
Follow established standards of nursing practice and implement community policies and procedures
Assess resident care needs and assist in developing Individualized Service Plans (ISP) that encourage resident independence and self-esteem
Update and communicate ISP plans of care, identifying health problems/needs and goals for each resident
Administer treatments and medications according to physician orders and accurately document administration
Ensure delegated responsibilities are carried out in accordance with departmental procedures
Document resident care, condition, and response to care as needed
Communicate residents’ condition promptly to physicians, the Director, and responsible parties, taking appropriate action
Provide direct resident care and clear instruction to care partners
Listen to resident, family, or physician concerns and implement appropriate action
Accurately count and document medications/deliveries; order medications as necessary
Adhere to dress code and time/attendance policies at all times
Practice safe work habits and follow all facility safety procedures
Ensure the safety, security, and well-being of residents
Key Requirements Other:
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/staff, and the general public.
Must be knowledgeable of practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.
May be asked to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
May be subject to call-backs during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)
Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret department programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care
Must be able to communicate with the staff, and other department supervisors.
Maintains a rapport with the residents and their families.
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
Must attend and participate in continuing educational programs
Medication Tech Qualifications:Physical and Sensory Requirements:
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility.
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
Must be able to climb stairs.
Qualifications:
Two years long term care or acute care.
