Position Summary:
The Head Chef is a dynamic culinary leader responsible for elevating the dining experience across both fine dining and assisted living environments. This role blends creativity, precision, and compassion – delivering restaurant-quality cuisine while honoring the nutritional needs, preferences, and dignity of residents. As the driving force behind the kitchen, the Head Chef sets the standard for culinary excellence, consistency, and innovation.
Beyond the plate, the Head Chef will be a hands-on leader who inspires, mentors, and holds the culinary team accountable. This position requires strong leadership, exceptional organization, and the ability to collaborate across departments to ensure seamless operations, regulatory compliance, and an exceptional dining experience every day. Key Responsibilities:
Lead and inspire the culinary team, ensuring professional performance, accountability, and collaboration across all Dining Services operations.
Deliver exceptional culinary experiences, balancing fine dining standards with the nutritional needs and preferences of residents.
Plan menus, prepare food, maintain standardized recipes, and oversee special events, functions, and resident-centered dining programs.
Manage inventory, ordering, and departmental budgets to optimize resources and ensure cost-effective operations.
Collaborate closely with other departments to support seamless daily operations and a positive resident experience.
Ensure strict compliance with food safety, sanitation, and regulatory requirements, including proper labeling, dating, and temperature logs.
Maintain accurate administrative, financial, and incident reporting, and actively participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Promote a safe, organized, and professional kitchen environment while upholding dress code, attendance, and safety policies.
Qualifications:
Associate’s degree in food service preferred, 3-5 years food preparation experience in fine dining establishment and supervising staff
Experience in food service and hospitality in healthcare or senior living settings is helpful
Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret department programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with staff, residents, family members visitors, government agencies/staff, and the general public.
Must be knowledgeable of practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines
Strong communication skills and ability to interact respectfully with residents, families, and staff
Compassion and patience when assisting elderly residents, including those with mobility or cognitive challenges
Ability to follow safety and sanitation guidelines consistently
Key Requirements Other:
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility.
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
Must be able to climb stairs.
Must submit to and pass an annual physical examination.
