Airport Maintenance, Full-Time, Evening Shift

Starting Pay Rate: The pay range for this position is $28.32 - $36.48 per hour, based on experience

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 3:30 P.M. - Midnight

Introduction

The Maintenance role involves the safe, efficient operation and maintenance of the various types of equipment that the Lincoln Airport Authority uses in the course of operating the airport and industrial park.


Essential Functions

  • Perform scheduled and preventative maintenance checks on the equipment that they operate, such as checking oil levels, inspecting tires, etc., and report malfunctions to the immediate supervisor.
  • Perform maintenance and replacement work on all building structures and physical property of the Lincoln Airport Authority.
  • Operate heavy and light equipment and tools safely in connection with the construction, maintenance, and repair of the airfield, industrial park, streets, etc.
  • Removal of trees, cleaning areas of debris and litter, cutting grass and weeds, sealing pavement cracks, basic repair of machinery, snow removal by mechanical means and by hand, weed spraying, general painting, paint stripping, general labor, and other related to the operations of the airport and industrial park.
  • Hours will vary during snow removal and emergencies.
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position.
  • Other duties, tasks, and responsibilities may be assigned at any time.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to thoroughly understand and implement the applicable provisions of FAR PART 139, the Airport Certification Manual, the Airport Rules & Regulations, and the Airport Security Plan.
  • Knowledge of the principles of construction and maintenance.
  • Ability to report conditions and describe situations clearly and logically, both orally and in writing.
  • Work well under pressure to meet project schedules, and be flexible and available to work required overtime upon notice.
  • Must be able to demonstrate basic knowledge and computer skills.
  • Considerable knowledge of airport operating hazards and safety precautions.
  • Must be able to work at heights of 40 feet.
  • Knowledge and ability in basic carpentry, plumbing, and welding are desirable.
  • Speak with clarity, and write and read English fluently.

Education and Experience

A minimum of one year of experience in equipment operation is desirable.

  • Lift and/or move up to 70lbs. utilizing safe and proper lifting techniques and equipment.
  • Safely climb in and out of trucks, and up and down stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, and walk.
  • Specific vision abilities required, such as close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Endure various work environment characteristics to include climatic temperature extremes such as cold, hot, wet, and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts/ equipment.


Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment will be provided by the Lincoln Airport Authority.


Safety Requirements

Adherence to standards established in the LAA Employee Handbook, Policy Directives, Airport Rules and Regulations, Standard Operating Procedures, and all other established safety requirements applicable to the position is required.


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in high places; in outside weather conditions; and is occasionally exposed, with appropriate PPE, to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


Condition of Employment

The employee is required to meet the essential functions, skills, abilities, etc., listed in this document. The employee must be at least 18 years of age. Successful completion of pre-employment reference check, criminal history check, physical assessment, drug screening, and MVR (motor vehicle report), and other requirements as per Lincoln Airport Authority policy. Any associated costs for the screenings will be covered by the Lincoln Airport Authority. The employee must possess, when hired, and maintain while employed, a valid State of Nebraska driver’s license and be insurable under normal rates. Also, the employee must obtain a CDL license and be airfield certified within six months of hire.

About Lincoln Airport Authority

The Lincoln Airport Authority is a local government entity existing under the Constitution and the laws of the State of Nebraska, including the Nebraska Airport Authorities Act of 1959. The Airport is owned by the City of Lincoln, but the City has given care, custody, and control of the airport to the Authority and the Authority maintains and operates the airport. The Authority is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of five members who are elected by voters of the City. The Airport presently encompasses an area of approximately 5,500 acres and is located approximately five miles northwest of downtown Lincoln.
