About this role

Desktop and System Support Technician - Junior


Responsible for IT customer service at his/her facility(s); this includes maximizing performance, security, and up-time of each desktop, server and network

 

Key Accountabilities

 

·        Complete assignments from the Service Desk efficiently and effectively as possible within assigned priority to meet SLA

·        Troubleshoot and solve office and shop floor IT issues

·        Act as the “face of IT” at his/her facilities and route issues or work with other members of the IT team as necessary to resolve an issue

·        Inform Corporate IT management of any issue that requires their involvement such as non-standards purchase, new enterprise\shop floor system requests and any requests to perform tasks outside of this job description

·        Enforce Corporate standards, GOS IT Policy and Procedures at his/her facilities

·        Purchase software and hardware for his/her facilities according to standards and IT purchasing procedures

·        Ensure his/her facility is licensed appropriately for all software and maintain the information in the licensing database.

·        Setup and install all network attached equipment at his\her facility\facilities

·        Maintain software and hardware on desktops at his/her facility including Office Automation software, Anti-Virus, PC management software.

·        Maintain an up to date Hardware and Software inventory for his/her facilities.

·        Look for ways to reduce costs and enhance productivity at facility and      Linamar, proposing any suggestions to management (Lean suggestions).

·        Support unique systems at his\her facility\facilities such as local MRP/ERP, PM system, Time and Attendance System, QA equipment, door controllers, buzzers, and other unique software or hardware

·        Backup local systems according to IT Policy and Procedure.

·        Maintain and monitoring servers located at the facility; includes applying service packs, updates etc. according to IT Policy and Procedure

·        Administer local phone system (including paging, voice mail, moves-adds-changes) at his/her facility.

·        Work on projects from Corporate IT management following the documented IT project procedures

Requirements

 

·        Good verbal and written communication skills are a necessity. The understanding of when to email, versus phone call, versus a face to face discussion is very important.

·        Ability to communicate on a technical and non-technical level depending on the audience.

·        Ability to read and interpret technical and non-technical documents.

·        Ability to listen and understand communications from customers, co-worker and management.

·        Critical thinking is necessary in any IT position to analyze and clearly identify the root cause of any issue.

·        The ability to break down larger problems into smaller components is key

·        Troubleshooting skills are key in any IT position; the ability to efficiently try multiple approaches to develop an effective solution

·        Must be able to problem solve in high pressure down time situations

·        Need to be able to continually to learn on the job as technology changes
