Role Overview

The Quality & Performance Improvement Manager leads the design, monitoring, and continuous improvement of quality, productivity, and performance outcomes across all RCM functions – including but not limited to, Benefit Verification, Cash Posting, Denials and AR Management.  This role ensures process standardization, compliance with payor requirements, and achievement of key operational metrics (e.g. DSO, denial rate, and QA accuracy). Supervising a team of RCM auditing coordinators, this role will lead the design, execution, and ongoing refinement of quality assurance, audit, and performance improvement programs across all revenue cycle functions.  

Working cross-functionally with Analytics and Training teams, this leader drives a data-driven quality culture that promotes accountability, transparency, and sustainable performance improvement.

Compensation: $90,000- 110,000 Annually

Key Responsibilities:

Quality Oversight & Audit

  • Develop and execute standardized QA audit programs across all RCM subfunctions.

  • Monitor accuracy of benefit verification, payment posting, and denial resolution workflows.

  • Conduct root cause analysis of recurring quality failures, claim rework, and payer denials.

  • Partner with Learning & Development Training teams to develop corrective action plans and retraining programs.

  • Ensure QA results are captured in a centralized dashboard and integrated into staff coaching and performance reviews.

Performance Management

  • Establish performance benchmarks and scorecards aligned with departmental KPIs (e.g., claim denials, DSO, productivity, QA accuracy).

  • Review team- and individual-level performance data weekly to identify trends, outliers, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Collaborate with department leaders to create performance improvement plans and track progress.

  • Translate performance insights into actionable strategies that reduce manual rework and improve first-pass yield.

Data & Reporting

  • Develop and maintain RCM performance dashboards in collaboration with analytics teams.

  • Provide executive-level reporting on quality trends, productivity metrics, and compliance results.

  • Leverage predictive analytics and exception-based reporting to identify potential quality or performance risks before they impact revenue.

Process Optimization

  • Lead cross-departmental reviews to streamline workflows, reduce variation, and improve efficiency.

  • Serve as SME for new process rollouts, EHR upgrades, and system integrations that impact RCM quality or performance.

  • Recommend automation and technology solutions to minimize manual intervention and improve accuracy.

Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure adherence to payer, state, and federal billing regulations, as well as internal compliance policies.

  • Partner with Compliance and Revenue Integrity on audit responses and remediation plans.

  • Foster a continuous improvement mindset through regular feedback loops, performance calibration sessions, and knowledge sharing.

People Management

  • Oversee and direct quality/PI operations to validate the team is doing their part to ensure operational consistency, and the achievement of key quality and productivity benchmarks.

  • Take corrective action as needed.

  • Remain current on supervisory and the field's best practices and trends.

  • Precept, train and mentor staff to expand their knowledge and competence in department operations and processes and demonstrate commitment to their success at LifeStance.

  • Create an open, supportive environment that encourages staff members to share opinions, concerns, and suggestions. Hold team-connects and/or communicate to keep the staff informed.

  • Address employee concerns and suggestions in a timely manner. Escalate issues and/or inform within the chain of command as appropriate.

Qualifications:

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Finance, or related field

Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive RCM experience, including at least 2 years in quality, auditing, or performance management.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead others. Formal lead or supervisory experience preferred.

  • Deep knowledge of payer requirements, claim adjudication, and denial management.

  • Strong data literacy with the ability to interpret trends, build dashboards, and present insights.

  • Experience with EHR and RCM platforms (e.g., AdvancedMD, AthenaHealth, Waystar, or similar).

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and influence change across large teams.

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and coaching skills.

  • Proven track record with automation/technology deployment in revenue cycle operations preferred.

  • Reimbursement methodology for BH/MH is a plus (Medicare, Commercial and payers that reimburse a percent of Medicare)

  • Payer policy experience (telehealth and onsite preferred.
