Location: Fort McMurray, AB 

 

Position Overview 

The Disability Inclusion Specialist plays a key role in fostering an inclusive, accessible, and supportive environment for individuals with disabilities participating in our career and employment programs. This role provides expert guidance on accessibility and inclusive practices, reviews and strengthens policies and procedures, conducts accessibility assessments, and delivers training to staff and employers. 

The Specialist will help ensure our services align with the Alberta Human Rights Act, the Accessible Canada Act, and industry best practices. This role will collaborate closely with Program Managers, Career Counsellors, Job Developers, Facilitators, and community partners to remove barriers, promote equitable access, and enhance program outcomes. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

Accessibility & Inclusion Strategy 

  • Conduct accessibility assessments of service environments, employer sites, digital tools, and program materials.
  • Review and recommend improvements to policies, procedures, and client-facing processes to ensure equity and accessibility.
  • Develop, implement, andmonitorinclusion strategies that support diverse disability needs.

Training, Education & Capacity Building 

  • Design and deliver training sessions on disability inclusion, workplace accommodations, universal design, and human rights.
  • Build staff capacity to provide trauma-informed, culturally informed, and disability-inclusive services.
  • Support employer partners in adopting inclusive recruitment, onboarding, and retention practices.

Advisory & Consultation 

  • Provideexpert guidance to program teams on accessibility requirements, duty-to-accommodate obligations, and best practices.
  • Consult with Job Developers and Employer Engagement staff to ensure job matching and employer outreach incorporates inclusive approaches.
  • Support the development of accessible program resources (forms, presentations, digital content, communication tools).

Compliance, Documentation & Continuous Improvement 

  • Ensure policies and practices align with Alberta Human Rights legislation, Accessible Canada Act requirements, and ethical standards.
  • Maintainaccuratedocumentation, assessments, and recommendations within required systems.
  • Participate in quality assurance processes and contribute to organizational continuous improvement efforts.

 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Social Work, Disability Studies, Human Resources, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, or a related field.
  • 2–3 years of experience in accessibility, disability services, inclusive employment, or human rights.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and Alberta accessibility legislation (e.g., Alberta Human Rights Act, Accessible Canada Act).
  • Experience conducting accessibility assessments and developing inclusive practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiencyin Microsoft Office and/or accessibility-related tools or software.
  • A clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check may berequired.

 

Preferred Qualifications (Assets) 

  • Experience in vocational rehabilitation, workforce development, or employment programs.
  • Familiarity with universal design principles and adaptive or assistive technology.
  • Experience working with employers on inclusive hiring and workplace accommodation strategies.
  • Knowledge of digital accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG).
