Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Center for Best Practice and Inpatient Nursing management, advises, supports, and assist in the use of data through advance statistical analysis, data mining and data visualization techniques to measure and report on clinical effectiveness.  Provides maintenance and support of a variety of data systems to support the quality and operational initiatives. Serves as administrator for assigned systems assisting in the development of strategies, projects and goals to utilize technology in innovative ways ultimately improving efficiency.  Provides support with performance improvement initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: Master's Degree in Health Administration, Computer Science, Business Administration or related field
Minimum Years of Experience: None
Substitutable Education & Experience (Optional): A Master's Degree may be substituted for one of the following combinations:
A Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Computer Science, Business Administration or related field with 2 years of related experience working in the database management.
An Associate's Degree in Health Administration, Computer Science, or Business Administration or related field with 5 years of related experience working in the database management and analysis.
Required Certifications/Licensure: None
Required Training: Experience with database querying and reporting technologies/tools;
Able to understand various data structure and common methods in data transformation;
Experience Microsoft Office Suite (especially proficient in Excel, Word, Power Point)
Must possess strong communication, analytical and problem solving skills.

Essential Functions

  • Gathers, analyzes, and interprets data to draw conclusions and/or make recommendations that support business objectives and optimize operations.
  • Summarizes information in a logical format and develops communication channels that summarize findings in a clear and concise manner to senior management and key stakeholders.
  • Utilizes and analyzes data in various approaches for projects including but not limited to; workflow assessments, best practice evaluations and implementation, operational efficiency evaluations, and performance reporting and action plan development.
  • Ability to work as team leader on projects, responsible for planning, implementation, and integration of assigned tasks and directives.
  • Identifies potential process improvements, economies of scale and productivity enhancements.
  • Participates in working sessions with stakeholders to obtain necessary project information or assist in project execution.
  • Works with senior leadership to design and develop reports that assist with the decision making process.
  • Stays abreast of best practices regarding methods of statistical analysis, data management, and databases responsible for. Makes recommendations on system enhancements and workflow.
  • Stays cognizant of current challenges and trends in assigned field and anticipates how these changes impact past, current, and future operations.
  • Audit databases and data to ensure data integrity. Identify potential errors and works with appropriate parties to ensure data is validated and reliable.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Entering data into appropriate databases to support data collection and analysis process.
  • Support statistical analysis of nursing research in collaboration with clinical nurses.
  • Interprets, analyses, present and distributes various data results to members of the department and other clinical and administrative team members as requested. 
  • Provides data and analysis for rapidly changing requirements for internal and external reporting:  CMS including restraint reporting, Leapfrog, Nursing Quality database registry, and nursing leadership.
  • Coordinates data requirements for hospital quality initiatives and provide technical expertise for members of the department and nursing leadership. 
  • Maintains current knowledge of changes in reporting requirements and relevant clinical data systems and methodologies. 
  • Educates, informs, and consults with customers and peers to effectively determine department/system needs and resolve problems. 
  • Participates in system design. 
  • Participates in working sessions with stakeholders to obtain necessary project/initiative information to or assist with execution of projects/initiatives.
  • Maintains documentation to describe development, logic, corrections, and manuals for users to describe operating procedures and definitions of reporting logic. 
  • Knowledgeable of the patient care environment and hospital processes.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
