Summary of the role:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Indirect Tax Senior Analyst to join our India-based tax team. This role will support to our U.S. indirect tax function, focusing on sales and use tax and property tax compliance, analysis, and reporting. The ideal candidate will have a good foundation in U.S. sales and use tax function. This position offers an excellent opportunity to be part of a dynamic team and build a specialized career in US Sale and Use area.
About the role:
Compliance & Return Preparation:
Prepare data for U.S. state and local sales and use, property and other miscellaneous indirect tax returns, leveraging our tax engine Vertex, Avalara and S4 Hana systems.
Assist in preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual property tax returns which are prepared by external service providers.
Prepare other miscellaneous indirect tax returns, leveraging our tax engine Vertex, Avalara and S4 Hana systems.
Maintain the tax compliance calendar, ensuring all deadlines for preparation, review and filing are met.
Gather and organize sale tax exemption certificates and other supporting documentation.
Accounting & Reconciliation:
Prepare proper documentation to support tax payment requests.
Perform monthly reconciliations of general ledger tax accounts (e.g., sales tax payable, tax expense, other indirect tax liabilities).
Assist in the preparation of journal entries for sales and use tax accruals and payments.
Support the team in gathering data for quarterly and year-end financial reporting and close process.
Tax Audits & Notices:
Support sales and use tax and property tax audits by gathering and organizing requested information but not limited to journal entries, invoices, and exemption certificates.
Assist the U.S. Indirect Tax Manager in researching and responding to basic tax notices from various U.S. state and local jurisdictions.
Process & Technology Support:
Assist in maintaining and updating the taxability matrix and rules within our tax automation software (e.g., Vertex, Avalara).
Participate in testing system updates and improvements related to the tax engine.
Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation within the indirect tax function.
Research & Analysis:
Research on U.S. state and local sales and use tax laws under the guidance of the Tax Manager.
Support the team in monitoring legislative changes that may impact compliance.
About you:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
5-6 years of relevant experience in tax, accounting, or finance role. Experience with a multinational corporation or shared service center is a plus.
Strong understanding of general accounting principles and proficiency with Vertex, Avalara, SAP or S4 HANA .
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, etc.) for data analysis.
Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a remote team.
A self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
