The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with strong problem-solving skills, a solid understanding of system behavior in operational environments, and experience supporting deployed or fielded systems. This role is critical to ensuring system readiness, reliability, maintainability, and continued mission success.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support the development and maintenance of technical data packages, maintenance procedures, work instructions, and sustainment documentation.
  • Recommend design improvements, component updates, and obsolescence mitigation strategies.
  • Support Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) activities.
  • Manage hardware and software baselines for fielded systems; coordinate updates, patches, and retrofit activities.
  • Author engineering change proposals, discrepancy reports, and technical risk assessments.
  • Work with logistics, supply chain, and depot teams to support spare parts provisioning, repair workflows, and maintenance planning.
  • Assist in developing long-term sustainment strategies that balance cost, reliability, and operational needs.
  • Support integration of sustainment feedback into new builds, retrofits, and follow-on production.
  • Interface with government stakeholders, field teams and program leadership to communicate status, drive issue resolution, and support mission readiness.
  • Support fielding events, training activities, and site assessments as needed.

Basic Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university with 8-12 years of experience or an MS with 6-10 years.
  • Basic understanding of weapons platform systems development lifecycle
  • Demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment, including participation in Technical Design Reviews
  • Experience in sustainment engineering, logistics engineering, or field support for complex systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with troubleshooting, maintenance, or repair of integrated hardware/software systems.
  • Strong understanding of configuration management, defect tracking, and FRACAS processes.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, technical manuals, and requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with depot repair workflows, retrofits, upgrades, or service life extension programs.
  • Experience with Army systems, launchers, sensors, or missile-related subsystems.
  • Resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.
  • Possess a secret clearance, or have the ability to obtain a secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred candidates will also have experience and/or working knowledge with:
    • Logistics deliverables and activities, such as user manuals, repair/replace procedures, and field service bulletins
    • Reliability analyses such as Failure causes and effects, reliability and maintainability trends, and parts obsolescence
    • Working familiarity with Lean & Six Sigma methodologies
    • Experience with direct system users interactions
    • DOORS and/or other requirements database tools
    • Understanding of the DoD acquisition processes and methods
    • Experience supporting one or more DoD programs
