Leidos’ Defense Systems in Huntsville, AL is seeking a Program Coordination Section Manager to join our team.  The Program Coordination section supports a variety of radar programs in the persistent surveillance division in Defense Systems. The team supports day-to-day program execution across a diverse portfolio of technical efforts, working closely with engineering, business, contracts, and customer stakeholders. This group plays a critical role in ensuring programs are planned, executed, and reported effectively to meet technical objectives, contractual requirements, and mission outcomes. The position is based in Huntsville, AL and involves regular collaboration with both on-site and distributed team members.

Primary Responsibilities.

  • Serve as Program Manager for a multi-year Cost-Plus-Fixed-Fee (CPFF) radar research and development program, overseeing planning, execution, budgeting, risk management, schedule performance, and customer/stakeholder coordination.

  • Lead the Program Coordination section as a people manager, providing supervision, mentorship, performance management, workload balancing, and career development support for approximately six program coordinators.

  • Provide guidance and consultation to section members supporting other programs, promoting consistent program execution standards, best practices, and process improvement across the portfolio.

  • Coordinate with technical staff, engineers, subcontractors, business management, and leadership to ensure program objectives, deliverables, and milestones are met.

  • Develop and communicate program status, financial and schedule performance, and issue resolution strategies to internal leadership and external stakeholders.

  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and mission-focused team environment across both program execution and section leadership responsibilities.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of prior relevant experience, or a master’s degree and 3+ years of relevant experience

  • Demonstrated experience in program management, project management, or program execution in a complex technical, R&D, engineering, or government/defense environment.

  • Experience leading teams, supervising staff, or providing functional or technical leadership to others.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple responsibilities.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and interface with customers, leadership, and technical personnel.

  • Must be a US citizen possess and able to maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance. 

  • Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville – North Alabama, AL, area

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing CPFF or other government-funded contract types, including budget, schedule, and performance tracking.

  • Background supporting or managing research and development programs, preferably in radar, sensors, or related technical domains.

  • Formal training or certification in program/project management (e.g., PMP, DAU/Defense Acquisition coursework, or equivalent).

  • Experience mentoring or developing early-career program staff or coordinators.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in dynamic, matrixed, or multi-program environments.

  • Highly organized, demonstrating the ability to work independently at times due to fast-paced and highly productive work environment

  • Experience working on a radar programs

  • Previous military experience

  • Ability to create design documentation, requirements specifications, and other technical documentation

Pay Range:

Pay Range $107,900.00 - $195,050.00
