
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical and HVAC Systems Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and HVAC systems supporting commercial and industrial facilities. This role focuses on ensuring the reliable operation of building mechanical infrastructure, including piping, heating, cooling, ventilation, and associated support systems.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with mechanical and HVAC equipment, strong diagnostic skills, and the ability to interpret technical documentation while working in compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Primary Responsibilities
Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and HVAC systems, including heating, cooling, ventilation, and associated support equipment.
Fabricate, install, and repair mechanical piping systems carrying water, steam, chilled water, hot water, air, gas, and other process fluids.
Work with piping materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, plastics, and specialty piping systems.
Inspect and service HVAC equipment including air handling units (AHUs), fan coil units, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, valves, and dampers.
Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance to ensure system efficiency, reliability, and longevity.
Troubleshoot mechanical and HVAC system issues such as leaks, airflow problems, pressure imbalances, temperature control failures, vibration, and equipment malfunctions.
Assemble piping and mechanical systems using welding, brazing, soldering, threading, grooving, and mechanical joining techniques.
Install, test, and commission mechanical service systems including HVAC, chilled water, steam, compressed air, and fire protection systems.
Conduct pressure testing, flushing, balancing support, and system verification to ensure performance and compliance with specifications.
Read and interpret mechanical drawings, piping isometrics, P&IDs, control diagrams, and building plans.
Coordinate maintenance activities, installations, and shutdowns with facilities teams, contractors, and other trades.
Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and documentation using CMMS or other tracking systems.
Ensure all work complies with applicable mechanical codes, building standards, safety regulations, and internal procedures.
Basic Qualifications
Active TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance is required
High school diploma or equivalent.
2–4 years of hands-on experience working with mechanical and HVAC systems in commercial, industrial, or facilities environments.
Completion of a technical training program, apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in HVAC, mechanical systems, or industrial maintenance.
Working knowledge of HVAC equipment, piping systems, pumps, compressors, and mechanical components.
Proficiency using mechanical diagnostic tools such as pressure gauges, temperature probes, airflow meters, and vibration monitoring tools.
Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and mechanical shop equipment.
Understanding of heating, cooling, ventilation, hydraulics, pneumatics, and preventive maintenance practices.
Ability to work independently and troubleshoot moderately complex mechanical and HVAC system issues.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree, trade school certification, or vocational training in HVAC, Mechanical Systems, or a related field.
5+ years of experience maintaining mechanical and HVAC systems in industrial or mission-critical facilities.
HVAC certifications such as EPA 608 or equivalent mechanical trade certifications.
Experience with advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and system optimization.
Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS) and HVAC controls interfaces.
Experience with CMMS platforms, maintenance planning, and work coordination.
Knowledge of applicable mechanical codes, energy efficiency standards, and building regulations.
Strong safety awareness with knowledge of OSHA or equivalent regulatory standards.
