Summary
Performs comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders under the general supervision of the medical director of the sleep center and/or sleep center manager, or designee. Provides diagnostic and therapeutic services/interventions, comprehensive patient care, and patient education based on diagnosis from the referring provider. Assists patients with walking and re-positioning during the study evaluation.

Job Duties
  • Performs sleep study preparation and set-up procedures per departmental protocols including but not limited to: reviews the patient's history and verifies the medical order; explains testing procedure to the patient/caregiver; prepares and calibrates testing equipment to determine proper functioning and makes adjustments, if necessary; and applies electrodes and sensors according to accepted standards.
  • Performs polysomnographic procedures following department protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data; maintains continuous visual and auditory monitoring of patient and clinical events on the recording.
  • Implements appropriate interventions necessary for the safety of the patients such as positive airway pressures and oxygen administration, etc.
  • Educates and trains patients on the use of home sleep testing (HST) equipment; performs portable monitoring equipment preparation and data download. Identifies artifact, inadequate signals, and study failures. Generates an accurate final report.
  • Documents routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other clinical events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results. Completes and submits all documentation based on policies/standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs polysomnographic record scoring and reporting per departmental protocols and adheres to AASM scoring parameters. Generates accurate final report for physician review reflecting all aspects of the polysomnographic record.
  • Performs post-testing procedures including proper cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance of equipment. Adheres to hospital and department policies/procedures including safety and infection control related to sleep department practice/operations/environment.
  • Provides cost effective care in accordance with department billing guidelines.
  • Participates in all aspects of performance improvement and quality assurance measures within the department. Evaluates the effectiveness of sleep test/interventions against expected outcomes based on current evidence.
  • Provides supervision in accordance with regulatory requirements, as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 year Successful completion of college level math and science coursework.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of infant/pediatric and/or adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to perform sleep equipment hook-up and monitoring.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of procedures and equipment routinely used in sleep testing.
  • Must be able to provide safe, compassionate, and competent sleep testing procedures.
  • Demonstrates computer skills appropriate for the position.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and complies with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and standards as set forth by Regulatory agencies and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
  • RPSGT - Registered Polysomnographer Technologist - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania within 90 Days
  • Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Instructor - State of Pennsylvania within 90 Days
  • DL - Driver's License_PA - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree
  • 1 year Recent RPSGT experience working with adult and/or pediatric populations.
  • Knowledge/Experience with EPIC system.

Physical Demands
Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
