GENERAL DUTIES

Performs Standard and Complex Electro-Neurophysiological Testing:

  • Provides testing on central nervous system and remains compliant to department policy and guideline standards implemented such as EEGs, evoked potentials, stomato-sensory lower upper, electroretinogram, epilepsy monitoring, etc.
  • Also provides assistance with electromyogram testing/nerve conduction studies and Botox injections.
  • Practices International 10/20 Measuring System.

Professional explanation of procedures and acquired patient history:

  • Identifies patient according to policy.
  • Provides a clear and precise explanation of the procedure to the patient and/or responsible person present.
  • Summarizes the patient's neurological status and enters completed comprehensive patient history into the acquiring computer system.

Neurological Documentation:

  • Provides appropriate patient care and detailed observations of clinical manifestations during a clinical or subclinical event and other emergent situations.
  • Establishes priorities and exercises proper judgement in pressured situations.
  • Takes appropriate action to ensure patient safety. Verifies all test requested including appropriate orders for the procedures, appropriate charging and data logging.

Technical Recording Enhancement:

  • Implements alternative methods, adjust controls outside of the normative parameters to obtain optimal recording and is able to enhance abnormalities. Utilizes stimulation and activation techniques appropriately.
  • Recognizes, documents and eliminate artifacts and/or take proper measures to monitor suspected artifacts.
  • Creates and programs new files and settings used in the Neurodiagnostic protocol using system software and procedure guidelines.

Safety:

  • Maintains and cleans equipment immediately after use (basic infection control) and ensures equipment is in proper working order.
  • Applies troubleshooting methods, repairs and/or replaces instrument parts as needed with immediate notification to the manager.
  • Communicates with technical support during troubleshooting of equipment.

Communication/Development and Education:

  • Utilizes appropriate inter-departmental and intra-departmental communication skills to facilitate flow and completion of patient demands.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational seminars, programs, literature, meetings and workshops.
  • Implements knowledge and understanding of neurodiagnostic instrumentation and pattern recognition.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Required: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent OR 2 years of work experience.
  • Required: Successful completion of an educational program for neurodiagnostic technologists, accredited by the AMA Committee on Allied Health Education, or equivalent education and training, required.
  • Preferred: Diploma from accredited neurodiagnostic allied health program.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent oral/written interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to perform standard/complex neurodiagnostic studies according to established standards and practices on patients from 0-21 years.
  • Ability to maintain a compassionate and professional demeanor while providing care for severely ill patients.
  • Ability to safeguard patients in emergency situations.
  • Ability to follow HIPPA guidelines.
  • Ability to develop, maintain and adapt to the culture and professionalism within the facility.
  • Ability to prioritize and develop organization within the work environment.
  • Experienced in evoked potential testing, preferred not required.
