Job Description Summary

               

Shift: Swing

The Sorter Operator controls and adjusts all packaging frozen sorters and sizing equipment for smooth and productive operations; monitors line flow and waste; corrects problems which affect quality and production costs; and makes adjustments as directed by the Team Leader

Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Maintains and promotes safe work practices at all times, assures that safe work practices are being followed in all work groups, and actively participates in safety programs.

  • Must understand and follow all applicable plant safety policies including but not limited lockout/tagout procedures.

  • Safely startup/shut down the sorting equipment (including LO/TO)

  • Evaluates equipment for performance, performs tests and adjusts, etc., as needed to assure optimal equipment performance and the production of quality products.

  • Proficient and responsible for sanitation and food safety practices.

  • Utilize Quality Assurance system for calibration and quality data entry.

  • Assists maintenance in performing maintenance work, troubleshooting, repair and adjustments of sorters.

  • Able to troubleshoot and determine if a problem is operational or mechanical in nature and if operational, make necessary operational changes.

  • Maintains system support equipment including but not limited to shakers and conveyors to maximize their efficiency and sustain equipment reliability.

  • Advises supervisory personnel on maintenance requirements, repairs equipment, and performs maintenance activities that sustains equipment reliability to maximize plant production and uptime.

  • Documents the inspection of equipment to sustain equipment reliability.

  • Take samples and evaluate on a regular basis

  • Completes AMD and CIL as required to maintain optimal sorter performance

  • Communicate with Production Lead and Team Leaders performance of all sorters

  • Support trainees and new employees: provide guidance and coaching to achieve daily goals in Safety, Quality and Productivity.

  • Write data on DSC Board for communication on sorter function

  • Observe and monitor gauges, dials and other indicators to ensure that settings conform to production or processing standard

  • Make recommendations on sorter issues

  • Performs and documents removal, installation, disassembly, repair, and assembly of sorter equipment.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in Food Manufacturing preferred

  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical machinery effectively and accurately.

  • Ability to effectively communicate, read and write in English

 Physical Environment/Demands:

 

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently. 

  • Exposed to a noisy environment that varies from hot to cold in temperature

  • Exposure to manufacturing environments for up to 10-12 hours per workday to include:  loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, slippery conditions, dirt, fumes, smoke, smells and allergens

  • Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist and hand movements required for job actions and procedures. 

  • Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment. 

  • Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties.  Ability to operate work related equipment

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Exposed to temperatures ranging from -20 degrees below zero to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in Freezer Operation and 37 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Plant Operation

  • Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders on a regular basis

This compensation is specific to this position and takes into account a number of variables. Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to a candidate's work location, job duties, experience and expertise. A reasonable hourly estimate for this role is listed below.

               

Pay Rate or Range: $24.32
