About this role

Koniag IT Systems, LLC, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Systems Network Engineer To support KITS and our government customer in Annapolis, MD. This is a “hybrid” position with office attendance requirements. The successful candidate will be required to work about half-time on-site in the Annapolis Office and half-time remote. This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a Public Trust.

The Chesapeake Bay Program is a unique regional partnership that is responsible for the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay. CBPO partners include the states of Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware, New York, West Virginia and District of Columbia as well as other Federal Agencies and Universities. The US Environmental Protection Agency represents the Federal Government in an effort to protect the Chesapeake Bay and better coordinate water quality restoration efforts throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The Chesapeake Bay Program Office (CBPO) Data Center is the focal point for supporting the development of critical decision support tools, the data sharing enterprise and supporting scientific computing across the partnership.

 

Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:

The CBPO Data Center is staffed by Koniag Government Services/Koniag IT Systems. We are searching for the ideal candidate to:

 

  • Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability.
  • Manage and monitor computer systems and network infrastructure.
  • Monitor and respond to security threats.
  • Review and remediate security risks and vulnerabilities.
  • Implement best practice configurations and actions.
  • Maintain Disaster Recovery plans and services.
  • Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management and auditing tools.
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
  • Provide technical support to end users and IT personnel.

 

Education and Experience:  

  • Candidate must have at BA/BS degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant systems engineering experience.
  • Compensation will be commensurate with experience and education.
  • This role is flexible dependent on experience level of candidate.
  • The final candidate hired could be either Mid-Level or Senior, depending upon qualifications.
  • Both Mid-Level and Senior candidates are encouraged to apply.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Azure AD Connect: Synchronize select OU objects with Password Hash and Writeback, SSO, and Device Hybrid Azure AD join.
  • Active Directory: DCpromo, FISMO Roles, OUs, Users, Computers, Groups, Delegation, Group Policies, DFS Name Spaces, LAPS, Service accounts, Password Setting Objects (PSO), and Azure AD Password Protection Agent.
  • Active Directory Sites and Services for DC location, replication, and subnet management.
  • Active Directory Domain and Trusted for integration with AWS domains.
  • Network Policy Access Services (NPAS) for remote user access authorization.
  • Windows 2019 - 2025 Physical and Virtual deployments, upgrades, administration, and troubleshooting.
  • Windows File Sharing hosting 70 TB of User data and DFS linking with Previous Versions VSS protection in addition to daily backups.
  • Dell iDrac: Dell server Remote Access Controller for physical server management.
  • MS Hyper-V hosting Windows and Linux servers, and GIS workstations.
  • MS DNS records management with conditional forwarders for AWS AD integration, and netmask ordering for custom resolution priorities.
  • MS DHCP VLAN Scope matching with failover redundancy.
  • MS SQL and IIS server support.
  • Windows 11 Desktop management using AD Group Policies, and Azure policies.
  • Must speak fluent English

 

Desired Skills:  

  • Expertise in network routing and VLAN concepts, SonicWall firewalls, Cisco switches, MS Active Directory and Group Policies, MS Servers and Workstations.
  • Experience with MS Certificate Authority, and other MS services to include Hyper-V, DHCP, DNS, DFS, NPS, LAPS, WSUS
  • Familiarity with MS 365 cloud services to include Defender, Entra, Intune, AD Synchronization, and Conditional Access Policies.
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud services to include VPCs, EC2, S3, SGs.
  • Familiarity with Nexpose InsightVM, Netwrix AD Auditing and Veeam.
  • Strong understanding of system security, vulnerability assessment, risk remediation, and data backup/recovery.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently

  • Successful candidate is subject to a background investigation by the government and must be able to meet the requirements to hold a position of public trust.
