DF-98 – Senior Mechanical Engineer

 

Location: Bradenton, FL

Base Salary Rate: $108,209.00 - $127,305.00

About This Role

Kidde Global Solutions (KGS), a portfolio company of Lone Star Funds, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support the Global Engineering Teams with the Design of Fire Detection Products and Components; that includes but not limited to 3D Modeling, Tolerancing, Sample Building, hands-on Testing and Performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyses.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Products and Components for New Product Introductions, Cost Reduction or Continuous Improvements Projects; from Concept to Production Launch.
  • Support Manufacturing and Global Teams by helping with Product and Part Sustainability; that includes but not limited to analyzing global engineering requests, creating a qualification/testing plan and routing change requests in the document control software.
  • Strong emphasis on ideation, project planning, concept development and implementation of robust test plans.
  • Application of robust engineering tools and software (e.g. rapid prototyping, DOE, QC etc.).
  • Drive DFMEA, identification of critical characteristics and best engineering practices.
  • Proactive support for Kidde fire alarm manufacturing sites.
  • Utilize CAD (SolidWorks) as a tool to create 3D/2D drawings for product development and ideation purposes
  • Apply product state of the art analysis tools combined with lab verification testing to create robust products
  • Use project management skills working as part of a cross functional team
  • Proactively promote continuous product improvement to enhance quality
  • Maintain personal development and areas of professional competency
  • Utilize engineering systems to maintain and manage project documentation (e.g. PDXpert, JD Edwards ERP)
  • Assist and facilitate with process improvement workshops (e.g. Kaizen events, VSM.)

 

Basic Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years of experience in Product Development/Design; preferably in high volume consumer and commercial goods
  • 5+ years’ CAD experience (Solid Works is strongly preferred)
  • 5+ years’ engineering FEA and CFD experience with running simulations

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with plastic materials, components and manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of robust engineering practices e.g. Design and Process FMEA.
  • Experience designing sheet metal parts and components
  • Experience dealing with Product and Quality Management Systems and Product Lifecycle systems
  • Mind-set for “Design for manufacture” and cost avoidance
  • Familiar with UL/ETL certification, engineering standards, automotive quality standards and similar quality systems and root cause analysis processes.
  • Experience of quality tools (e.g. Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen would be beneficial)
  • Understanding of statistical software such as Minitab and DOE
  • A self-motivated individual focused on delivering to deadlines with flexible working approach.
  • Able to accommodate global meetings that may occur outside of the standard work-day hours (once or twice per week)
  • Capable of working independently and as part of the team.
  • Open to attending the occasional meeting outside of normal work hours.
  • Quickly absorbs product knowledge / proactive self-learner of fire safety and security standards
  • Hands on approach, quick learner, problem solving, and capable of overcoming barriers
  • Strong communication skills in all disciplines including written, oral, email, presentation and project management.

 

 

Compensation and Benefits 

Individuals may be eligible for an annual performance bonus based on both individual and company’s performance. The final compensation for this position will be set based on the individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience as it relates to the job requirements.
