About the role

 

The Database Administrator IV is responsible for all aspects of the organizations database management strategy, integrity, and design with subject matter expertise of the data stored within the database systems. This includes database design; table definition design and creation; ETL (Extract Translate and Load) design and development from conception to implementation; database maintenance, tuning, backup, and upgrades. The Database Administrator IV leads discussions and mentors’ application and database development staff with database design, automation and validation of data load routines involving application databases. In addition, The Database Administrator IV provides team leadership, establishes technical standards for the database team, and works closely with the management team to continuously refine the KHS project management and agile development methodology, procedures, and policies in order to promote efficiency and productivity.  The position will be required to lead, work with, and mentor people of various professional, vocational, and educational backgrounds.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Leadership

 

  • Provide strong technical direction and guidance, project management skills using the Project Management Institute (PMI) methodology, and related abilities to facilitate, execute, and accomplish corporate and maintenance project deliverables.

 

  • Provide technical leadership for all aspects of Database development and operations, lead technical teams using the Agile methodology for incremental product delivery, independently perform Scrum Master duties, and promote Agile best practices for continuous improvement.

 

  • Facilitate and lead collaborative cross functional workgroups to resolve complex problems in real-time to reduce or mitigate operational interruptions.

 

  • Mentor and provide leadership to junior team members.

 

Technical

  • Architect and develop ETL using Microsoft SQL server Integrations services and catalog that are used to collect and store the data from external sources, so that data can be accessed by internal or external business and technology partners or users.
  • Install, configure, support, and troubleshoot Microsoft SQL Server, or other relational database platforms like PostgreSql or MySql, supporting OS and associated hardware.
  • Design, create, or modify database tables, indexes, constraints, links, stored procedures, and functions.

 

  • Expertise in working with different types of data (JSON/xml/HL7/etc.) and heterogeneous data sources from web/cloud-based solutions to Data Lakes or warehouses.

 

  • Perform code review and troubleshoot in development of custom database packages and maintain code repository in Azure DevOps.

 

  • Ensure that routine or special database software upgrades, maintenance, security audits, and patches are performed.

 

  • Manage and review database server administration including but not limited to data and database backup and recovery, system performance, system monitoring, and database security.

 

  • Provide leadership in the overall database designs and setup in support of the KHS and industry standards and establish best practices to govern database server users, roles, or permissions.

 

  • Provide direction and methodology for the data warehouse design, creation, and maintenance to include data schemas and associated ETL in conjunction with business needs.

 

  • Establish standards for data integrity in the KHS data warehouse through data reconciliation techniques, data analysis, or ETL design issues.

 

  • Provide design and structural recommendations for database application tuning and performance enhancements to development team.
  • Advanced knowledge of ANSI SQL (T-SQL preferred).

 

Administrative

 

  • Independently evaluate, select, and integrate third party tools.

 

  • Proactively interacts with management, business and technical analysts in review and design of new concepts and ideas, project implementation, and problem resolution.

 

  • Provide technical feasibility studies in support of projects and ensure system documentation is accurate and current.

 

  • Provide user database education and acts as liaison in database support for various business functions that will include multiple KHS departments.

 

  • Supervise and coordinate deployment of database code and related change management process, including collaboration with technical resources such as systems engineers.

 

  • Works in coordination with system engineers on all major infrastructure changes to assess business impact and communication methods.

 

  • Analyze and monitor system and database impact metrics prior to deploying code to production.

 

  • Supervise and coordinate database demonstrations, user acceptance testing, new implementations, and upgrades.

 

  • Proactively assume ownership of initial or escalated help desk incidents, change management requests, problem tickets, and other work as assigned that cannot be resolved at a lower level.
  • Actively attend webinars and conferences as they pertain for database maintenance, direction, and industry standardization.

 

  • Determine industry changes and make appropriate recommendations to management for future technical direction.

 

Employment Standards:

 

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school or equivalent in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field and eight (8) years of progressive experience in a Database Administration or Database programming in a medium to large organization with a structured IT department preferably in healthcare Education can be substituted with Programming work experience on a year for year basis.

 

OR

 

Twelve (12) years of progressive experience in a Database Administration or Database programming experience in a medium to large organization with a structured IT department preferably in healthcare.
